It was the next day. Anita had hardly slept. She was too busy thinking about her mother dating her body guard. The body guard she had gotten to keep her safe. She felt betrayed. How could she do this to her? How could she try to replace her father with some man she had known for only a little while?

She sat on her bed, looking at her laptop screen. She was emailing her college to let them know she would not be returning. Once she finished typing the long email, she sent it. Honestly, she did not want to leave college. She had dreams. But it was too dangerous to stay. Not for her. For Caspian. If he ended up getting hurt by Loki, she would never forgive herself. She had already lost her father and Sophie. She could not lose someone else.

She got up off her bed and went to her window. She moved the curtains aside and looked outside. Snow covered the ground. It had snowed the night before. Some of her neighbors were outside. Kids were throwing snowballs. Adults were building snowmen and laying down on the snow, moving their arms and legs in and out to create angels.

She loved the snow but she did not feel like going out and playing in it. She did want to at least walk around in it. Perhaps that would lift her spirits a touch.

She threw on a pair of black sweats, a white t shirt and an oversized grey hoodie. After putting some light brown snow boots on, she left her room. Her mother was not home. She was at work. Neither was Steven. He must have gone out to do something. She was happy they were both gone. If they had still been there, she likely would have flipped out again.

She left the house and began to walk around her block. It was windy. The cool air hit her pale face. Every time she exhaled, she could see her breath in the form of a little white cloud of fog. The snow crunched beneath her boots with each step. She kept her hands in the pockets of her hoodie, trying to keep them warm.

Her phone in the pocket of her sweats began to ring. She took it out and looked to see who was calling. Her heart leaped. It was Caspian. She put her thumb over the ignore button.

"No, don't ignore it."

She stopped walking and looked to her right. She was not at all surprised by who it was. He wore his usual Midgardian attire. A black suit with a green tie and a black overcoat.

"I want you to answer his call. When you do, I want you to tell him to stop contacting you. I am pleased that you left your institution to distance yourself from him. But it is not enough. I need you to cut all contact with him. Now. Answer it," said Loki.

The phone rang again. She did not want to do what he was asking but did she really have a choice?

She answered the phone and held it up to her ear.

"Hello?"

"Anita? Hey, are you okay? I've been trying to reach you but you didn't respond to any of my texts."

"I'm...I'm fine," she said.

"Good. I was worried that something bad had happened to you after I took you back to your dorm."

"No, nothing bad happened. I'm fine."

"I'm glad. Anyway, I wanted to know if you maybe wanted to go grab a coffee or something? I don't have any classes today."

She was silent for a moment. She glanced over at Loki. He was giving her a stern look. She looked away and sighed.

"I can't. Actually, I just left college. I withdrew from the university. I'm back home."

He was silent on the line for a moment. "What? Why would you do that?"

She ignored his questions and continued. "Look, Caspian, I need to tell you something."

"What's up?"

"I...I just..." she heaved a big sigh. "I can't talk to you anymore. Or hang out with you."

"What?" he replied, the cheerfulness in his voice being replaced with confusion. "Why? Did I do something wrong? If this is about what happened at the lake, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."

"No, that's not why. You didn't do anything wrong. What happened at the lake was...amazing. I just can't anymore. I can't."

"Why?"

She shook her head vigorously. "This was a huge mistake."

"What's going on?"

"Look, I have to stay away. If I don't, bad things are going to happen and I don't want that. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

"Bad things? I don't understand. What's going on? Are you in trouble?"

Tears were forming in her eyes. She blinked them away.

"Goodbye, Caspian. Take care of yourself."

"Wait, please. Just talk to m-"

She hung up the phone and wiped her wet eyes.

Loki clapped slowly. "Perfect. Now, I need to talk to you, slave. Let's stroll while we converse."

He put a hand on the small of her back and began to walk. She walked with him.

"Tomorrow, I will be taking you to Asgard. This time though, it will be indefinitely. You will not be returning to this world. I need you to be my slave at all times. Day and night. I plan on marrying my dear Nicole soon."

She felt sick to her stomach when he said that. "Indefinitely?"

He nodded. "She will no longer be my slave. A queen can't be a slave too. You will take over her role. I will come for you tomorrow night."

"But, I don't want to go."

"What you want does not matter. Besides, why not? You and that other girl are no longer companions. Your mother is in a relationship with her guard, one you hired. And that boy will not longer be in your life. There is nothing left for you here."

"I...I don't-"

"Be ready tomorrow evening. I'll come by while your mother is away at work. Don't try to bring anything with you. You will not be needing any Midgardian things. And don't even think about trying to run away. I can figure out where you are."

With that, he walked off.

She felt like she was going to throw up. She made her way back home, no longer feeling like walking anymore.
