Anita stretched. After a long road trip, she had finally arrived to her destination. The university of her dreams.

"It's only been three hours but it feels like we've been driving forever," said Anita.

"It was even longer for me. I was driving," replied Anita's mom, Samantha.

"Let's go see what my dorm looks like! I'm dying to get out of this car."

They both got out of the car and walked to the university campus which wasn't too far away from where they had parked. They entered it. Anita looked around. It looked even better in person.

She and her mom got the keys to her room and then set off towards the dorms to see what it looked like.

"I can't believe first years can't be in the co-ed dorms. That's bs," said Anita.

"Don't worry. Next year you can have all the co-ed that you want," said her mom.

They walked in silence for a moment, the sound of birds chirping filling their ears.

"I hope the dorms are nice," said Anita.

"Well, this is a really good college. The dorms should be decent."

When they reached Anita's dorm building, they took the elevator up to the fourth floor, where her dorm was. It was very chaotic. Other freshmen were searching for or observing their dorms.

They searched for her door number and found it quickly. Anita unlocked the door and entered. She looked around. She wasn't disappointed but she wasn't very happy either. To their left was a bed against the wall. Next to it was a white nightstand. The walls were plain and clean. The carpet was white. There was a large window across from the door. It had no curtains or blinds.

"It's very...white," said Anita.

"Not that bad. Kind of plain but I'm sure you'll doll it up," said Samantha.

"Not as nice as I had hoped. But yeah, I guess I could make it nicer."

"I can't believe it. This is the first place you'll be living outside of home! I think I'm going to cry," said Samantha.

"Please don't."

"And you'll be living all alone. No roommate."

"Perfect because I love being alone."

"Wanna go get your stuff now?"

Anita nodded. "Yeah, alright."

The two of them left the room and headed back to the car to get her things. They had to make a total of four trips. She had brought so much stuff.

"Why did you decide to bring so much?" asked Samantha as they ascended in the elevator.

"I don't know. Maybe it's because I'm going to college far away from home and I didn't want to get homesick," replied Anita.

"Excuses, excuses. You make it sound like you live in France. You've always been an over packer."

Samantha looked at the box she was holding. Anita had labeled it with a black marker.

"Loki stufz. You know you spelled stuff wrong, right? It's S-T-U-"

"I know, mom. I know."

"Why do you have a whole box full of Loki stuff? I mean, I knew you were obsessed with him but this is ridiculous."

When they got to the room, they dumped Anita's last things in the middle of the room with everything else they had brought up.

"What do you want to do now?" asked Anita. "I don't feel like unpacking yet."

"Well, I don't have to be home for a few hours so we should go eat and see some sights. I mean, we are in Seattle. It's a cool place," said Samantha.

"Sounds like a plan. Let's go."

After a few hours of exploring the city and getting some food, Anita and Samantha returned to Samantha's car.

"Guess I should get going. See you later, honey. Don't forget to call me."

"I won't."

"And video chat."

"Got it."

"I mean it. You know how easily I panic when I don't hear from you."

"Yeah, yeah, I know."

Samantha beamed, making her dimples show. "Your father would be so proud of you. Going to college." Tears began to form in her eyes.

"Don't cry mom. It's...it's okay."

Her mom wiped her eyes and sighed. "Give me a hug."

Anita hugged her. After a few seconds, they let go.

"Stay safe. See you soon," said Samantha.

"You too. Bye."

Her mom got into the car, started it, said bye one last time and then left. Anita watched her drive away. When she couldn't see her anymore, she began to make her way back to her dorm building.

When she reached the elevator, she pressed the up button. It opened immediately. She stepped in, pressed the 4 button and then pressed the button that closed the doors a few times. When the doors were almost shut, a hand stopped them and they opened again. A girl with pale skin and blond hair entered hurriedly. She was about to press four but stopped when she saw it was lit up.

The doors closed. The girl ran a hand through her hair and then pulled up her light blue jeans. She glanced over at Anita.

"You're new here, aren't you?" she asked.

She looked at her nervously. "Uh, yeah. Is it that obvious?"

"No. It's just that I'm in charge of the fourth floor dorms and I haven't seen you around. I'm the dorm advisor."

"Oh wow. I never would have guessed. You look like a normal student."

"I'm Patricia," she said, putting her hand out to Anita.

Anita hesitantly took it and shook it. "I'm Anita."

The doors opened. They both exited.

"Do you know about the dorm rules?" asked Patricia.

"Some of them."

"Well you need to know them all asap. Hold on, I'll get a copy of them from my room."

She ran off to her room. Anita waited a bit impatiently. In a minute, she returned.

"Here you go," she said, handing the orange paper to Anita. She pretended to look it over.

"The most important rules are no boys or visitors after 10pm, quiet hours start at 9pm, no pets, and absolutely no alcohol or drugs."

"Okay. Got it."

Patricia smiled. "And if you need anything or have any issues with anyone on this floor, just let me know."

"Okay."

"Alright. See you later!"

Patricia left. Anita, finally alone, went to her dorm. When she entered, she looked at her stuff and groaned. She didn't feel like unpacking but she knew she had to. At least a little. She couldn't leave a mountain of her stuff in the middle of the room. She took off her shoes and got to work.

She managed to unpack about half of her things before she had gotten extremely tired. She decided to stop and finish the next day. She went to the bathroom that she shared with the other people living in her dorm and got ready for bed. Then she put one of her mom's sheets on the mattress of the dorm bed. She retrieved a blanket from one of her unpacked bags and crawled into bed. It wasn't the best bed. Not as comfy as the one back at home. But it would do. She laid down and soon, she was asleep.
