Once we've been working at something for a while, there comes a time when we take a step back and look at the results. We think about the effort invested. We consider our expectations. We see where things are at. The Seven of Pentacles represents this time of judgment and appraisal. Before continuing on with the project, we want to be sure it's moving at an acceptable rate and in an acceptable manner. If things are not meeting our expectations, there are many options (such as quitting, lowering expectations, or doing things differently), but none are actually given in the card.
The Universal Waite card shows a man examining the pentacles growing on a vine. He is quietly considering all that he sees. Although the harvest appears lush and bountiful, his calm expression shows neither satisfaction nor disappointment.
Core meaning:
Appraising results of efforts.
The Legacy card shows a woman examining her harvest, still hanging from the tree. Her expression is more obviously satisfied. She holds an empty basket at the ready, symbolizing her confidence that she will gather this fruit.
In the Shadowscapes card, the woman has already begun harvesting. She is carefully and closely searching the as-yet unready fruit. The tattoos on her arm and chest show how fully she identifies herself with this particular project.
