When this card comes up, it is easy to think of multi-tasking. Doing several things at once is common for most of us, at least sometimes. There are hectic times when everything we are attempting threatens to fall. But then there are those times when everything goes amazingly smoothly, almost like magic. The Two of Pentacles is that kind of balancing. We are directing rather than controlling. We are in a Zen-like state. We are working with the flow of the universe. The card is not necessarily about doing things but about balancing the flow of our lives in a graceful and natural way.

The Universal Waite card shows the idea of being in sync with the universe in two ways. The ships flow up and down on the waves, working with the sea while making forward progress. The pentacles being juggled are within a lemniscate, which symbolizes the eternal flow of the universe.

Core meaning: Maintaining balance.

The Legacy card has a whimsical quality, with its colorfully dressed figure showing that such a state is enjoyable. Riding a penny-farthing bicycle over water indicates that operating in a playful way allows accomplishments that may seem impossible.

In the Shadowscapes card, the figure is reminiscent of the god Shiva, Lord of Destruction, but known precisely as the Lord of Change. This card takes a broader look at the idea of universal balance—in particular, the delicate balance between destruction and creation.
