The Page of Cups represents someone who is seeing as if for the first time a matter of the heart, such as a relationship, emotion, or creative impetus, which is represented by the cup. He may have any number of reactions: enchanted, beguiled, curious, hesitant, repulsed, confused. But this card is not necessarily concerned with his immediate reaction. What it does reveal is that he does not know what to do with the experience. He has acknowledged its existence but is not sure what he is prepared to do with it or how it relates to him and his life. Instead of taking action, he prefers to examine and study it, seeking its secrets and searching for understanding before making any decisions.

In the Universal Waite card, the page has already made some progress in understanding the situation. The fish peeking out of the cup is revealing a secret. The page appears pleased with what he is learning. He holds the cup away from him, making clear that he is keeping it at arm's length for now, at least. His approach is one of objective study.
Core meaning: One who is assessing something in the area of emotions, relationships, or art.
The Legacy page gently holds the glass goblet close and caresses it. He does not look at it but examines it through tentative experience. He is looking forward, as if asking for guidance, direction, or someone to share the experience. This approach is more hands-on, literally and figuratively.
The Shadowscapes card has more emphasis on the page losing herself in the experience. She lets it fill her. She wants to know how it feels. However, she is doing this alone, in a place where she feels comfortable and safe.
