The great thing about imagination is that it allows us to picture so many possible options. We can build these fantastic dreams and live in them in our minds before determining which of them we want to follow. The Seven of Cups shows all of our dreams and desires laid out, awaiting our consideration. This card doesn't tell us how to choose. It expresses the feelings we have in the face of possibilities and implies the downside of this experience: until a choice is made, there is a lack of focus.

In the Universal Waite card, the figure is darkened and his back is to us, indicating confusion and distraction. The dreams are looming so large that they are casting him in a shadow. The contrast between the man and the cups is unsettling.

Core meaning:

Dreams and desires.

The Legacy image focuses on the immensity of the choices. They fill the card, lit by the sun, taking on lives of their own. The viewer isn't even in the picture. The focus is on the dazzling effect of the dreams.

The Shadowscapes card takes a different approach. In this card, a choice has been made; there is one dream and two responses to it. The woman sees it clearly and feels excited by it. The man is intent on figuring out how to achieve the dream. This shows a dream as a compass that directs decisions and actions
