In the Legacy card, we see a site of utter destruction. Amid raging fires and dead bodies, the victor stands holding his gain ... five swords. His tattered flag remains, waving over a field of death.

The Universal Waite card is bleak, with its icy, pale sky and hunched, cloaked passenger. But the foreground is filled with the boat and oarsman. There may be sadness, but the focus is on the escape and the help. The idea that this is a positive move is highlighted by the waves, indicating rough waters, on the right side of the boat and the smooth waters on the left. Some people believe that the presence of the swords in the boat indicates that the passengers bring their troubles with them wherever they go, but that is best determined by the context.
Core meaning: Leaving a situation with help.
The Legacy card shows a woman facing her journey with confidence and complete faith in her helper, who is steering the boat. The swords rising from the water and coming down from the sky represent the dangers faced during this time and the difficulty of the decision.
In the Shadowscapes card, the woman riding the swan symbolizes relying on others for help. Her faith and confidence are evident by her relaxed pose. The swan takes her above and away from her troubles, indicated by the ravens perched on the swords.
