The Empress, sometimes associated with Mother Nature, does represent nature, life, and growth. However, she represents birth and ripening, the beginning and peak of the cycle, more than death, which is the end of the cycle. The card symbolizes abundance. This not merely having enough; it is more than enough. This is not just nourishment; this is a feast for the senses. The Empress and her creation are lush and beautiful, with no stinginess or shabbiness. As part of nature, we also have the ability to create in this way. The act of creation and the enjoyment of abundance are linked. While it is true that we reap what we sow, and that sometimes we make poor seed choices, this card is about the good seeds. It is about creating and enjoying the good things in life.

The Universal Waite Empress reigns over nature, a true empress, in complete control over her creation. Her elaborate pillows and blankets show comfort and luxury. The pomegranates show abundance, as does the wheat, which is also practical and nourishing. The stars on her crown represent time in general, and specifically the role of time and cycles in the circle of life, as well as the idea that creation takes place in the mind as well as in the world.

#STAR

The hexagram appears in two cards, The Empress and The Hermit. In both cases, the reference is Qabalistic. In The Empress's crown there are twelve stars, representing the entire zodiac said to be embedded in Wisdom, which is the beginning of her emergent path on the Tree of Life. In The Hermit, the hexagram in his lantern is the symbol of the light he creates by reaching the boundary between the world above and the world below at the top of his mountain. This boundary between above and below is the end of his path of return on the Tree of Life.

The simple lesson of the hexagram is wisdom and light
