Kit sat in the very back with Maggie doing anything she knew wouldn't harm the baby. She could hear its heartbeat, but without an ultrasound, kit wouldn't have a clue where to even begin with treatment. Maggie squeezed kits hand, bringing her out of her head.
"I'm sorry I'm not much help this time, mags," kit whispered
"You've done enough," Maggie whispered, smiling softly, teary-eyed
"Carson will know what to do."
"How do you know?"
"Everything we've done, we've done together-" Rick said, walking in, "-we got here together, and we're still here. Things have happened, but it always worked out for us cause it's always been all of us. That's how I know." Rick said softly, "-when it's all of us, we can do anything" it was silent for a minute, his words bringing hope.
"I was just gonna say it's Carson's literal job description." Kit sheepishly added, a couple of tears falling as Maggie laughed, not grimacing in pain nearly as much. Rick nudged her with a small smile "good speech, though," she smacked her teeth, the boys snickering from the hallway.
"Guys?" Abe called from the front. Both boys moved out of their way to get to the front as Abe slowed to a stop. They kneeled so they could see out the windshield. Roadblock, three vehicles, six men in the back, two just standing in front of them, one man on the ground in front of them.
"We doing this?" Abe asked
"Yup," "no," kit and rick said simultaneously. Kit looked over at him like he was crazy.
"I'm taking your brother's advice," Rick said, walking to the RV door and stepping out; kit clenched her jaw, grabbing a gun following, the rest doing the same.
"He's someone who was with a whole lot of someone's who didn't listen." An 80 's-looking mustache man announced, pointing to the guy on the ground.
"We can make a deal. Right here, right now." Rick said, kit Resisting the urge to scoff loudly.
"That's right; we can. Give us all your stuff," 80's man said smiling "we'll probably have to kill one of you and take red jacket lady as tribute; boss man likes pretty things. That's just how things are now, but hey, then we can start moving forward on business. All you have to do is listen."
Kits finger rhythmically tapped the trigger side, just itching to kill them; rick smiled " Yeah, that deals not going to work for us. Fact is, I was about to ask for all of your stuff, only I'm thinking I don't have to kill any of you, unlike my wife over here in the red jacket. At least any more of you."
80's man rubbed his mustache while the other in a military green jacket shook a can before spraying an orange X on the man's chest that was still on the ground. "Sorry, my deal is the only deal. We don't negotiate."
Rick waved them all back inside the RV; Jody pulled kits arm to make her start walking backward "me and my people are leaving."
"Okay, friend-" he waved, "plenty of ways to get where you're going."
"Fucking prick," kit cursed, stepping inside.
They hit more roadblocks after the 1st roadblock, the 1st one being more men. The 2nd one they ended up driving through was Walker sporting items from their missing family, which sent kit into a panic, finding Daryl's bolts and Necklace that Jodie put on for safekeeping. After kit gave Maggie some more stuff to help her fever, they hit the 3rd roadblock, a tower of men, it seemed; kit couldn't even count there were so many. And the final was a wall of perfectly cut-down lumber, the man with an X spray-painted on his chest being hung by a chain over the side of the bridge. And as kit stared at his lifeless body, all she could think was they should have run recon. She could hear the familiar sound of fire crackling behind her.
