K A I R A

I directly rushed to Sitara's room. De-I mean, Mr. Shekhawat was sitting in a chair beside her bed with his head resting in his hands. Aarna maa was changing the wet cloth from her forehead.

"I don't know wh-" Mr. Shekhawat was saying something but stopped as soon as his eyes landed on me. I looked down, playing with my finger. My chest was rising and falling lightly with some unknown feeling. I gulped. He cleared his throat making me realise he was now two feet away from me. "Come in." His deep voice made me cold. I got goosebumps.

I hurried to Sitara. I climbed on her bed. I kept my hand on her tiny one and kissed it. She slowly opened her eyes. "Kaiwa." She almost whispered. I felt upset by her state.

"How are you feeling, baby ?" I softly murmured. "I am stwong." Her reply made me chuckle. "Yesh, you are my strong baby." I scooped her and brought her near to my chest. "Mumma." She muttered faintly.

"What ?" I was shocked. "huh..ha.C-Can I call you m-mumma ?" I frowned. "No baby, you can't. I am not your mumma. You should not call me that." She sighed, resting her head on my shoulder. I caressed her hair. "Do you want me to sing for you ?" I had read in a book, children like lullabies, especially babies, so I had learnt some.

"Yeaa..!" She eagerly exclaimed. I chuckled and put her head back on my shoulder. I went towards the window. I started humming a song for her while patting her back.

After I finished, I realised she was already asleep. I placed her on her bed and covered her with the comforter. I picked the cloth from the cool water and squeezed it. I spread it on her forehead. Her temperature was still high. I turned around to find Mr. Shekhawat staring at me. I ignored him and went to her wardrobe. I picked a pair of light and comfortable pyjamas for her.

I went back to the room. I noticed Mr. Shekhawat was still there in the room but he had changed his position. He was sitting in a chair near her bed.

I went downstairs,I brought a bowl and went to the bathroom. I came out with warm water and a towel. I kept it on the nightstand. "Sitara. Sitara." I rubbed her arms with my fingers trying to wake her. She opened her eyes and yawned. I pulled her dress out from her head and made her undress. I wet the towel with the warm water and wiped her body with it.

I cleaned her drool as she was not completely awake. It made me chuckle for some reason. I dressed her with the pjs.

Mr. Shekhawat suddenly stood up and walked to the other side. He picked the bowl with water and towel, then he walked out of the room without uttering a single word.

Sitara made grabby hands. I went near and slid under the comforter, she wrapped her tiny hand around my chest, not completely but half-hug kinda. "Don't fall asleep, you need to eat first." She whined.

"Aarna maa. Aarna maa." I shouted trying not to scare or disturb Sitara. "What happened ?" Mr. Shekhawat padded into the room. I looked away,"huh..Is Sitara's dinner ready ?" I queried.

"No. Few more minutes."he said. I nodded. She coughed loudly. I brought the sippy cup from the nightstand and fixed it in her mouth. She drank the water. Aarna maa came inside with the tray. I tried to get up but failed. I left Sitara and held my stomach. I was not feeling good. Mr. Shekhawat rushed to me. He held my shoulder and hand,"you should be careful."

I made Sitara get up,"Sitara. C'mon baby, get up. You're strong, right ? You need to eat in order to get more strength." She whimpered but woke up. I fed her the puree kind of thing.

After that we all had our dinner. I changed into the clothes Sakshi gave me. I slept with Sitara. I didn't mind sleeping with her unless she cries all night. I gave her the medicines and then we both were asleep.

I woke up at midnight, hearing whimpers. Sitara was silently crying and shivering like a leaf. I cooed to her,"oh baby, what's wrong ?" She whispered,"m-mo-monsterw T-Thewe." She pointed towards the dark corner.

"It was just a bad dream. You are our brave girl. Don't be afraid of silly monsters. There is no monster look." I switched on my phone's flashlight. "Is there any ?" I queried. She shook her head, wiping her cheeks. "Now, sleep. You're bold and strong. Don't let any silly stupid thing that doesn't even exist, scare you. Okay ?" She nodded her head with hiccups.

"Bravo." I kissed her forehead and went back to sleep but only to be disturbed by shaking. I opened my eyes. Sitara was looking at me while sucking her finger.

"I am hungwy." Just then the door unlocked. Mr. Shekhawat was surprised to see both of us. "Thank god you came. Can you bring some warm milk for Sitara." I sleepily blurted with blurry vision. My eyes were burning.

I didn't realise when I fell asleep.

Next morning,
When I awoke. I saw Mr. Shekhawat was sleeping in the same bed with us. I gasped as his cold hand was touching my waist. I jerked away. He was at the other side with Sitara between both of us.

This man. Couldn't he think once how I would feel seeing him sleeping in the same bed where I was ? I crunched my nose. He stretched his arms in the air. He rubbed his eyes. Damn, he was handsome, no doubt. I kept gawking at his great figure.

Holy moly, pregnancy hormones.

"Is it good to always blame your pregnancy?" His husky voice boomed, breaking my trace. "huh ?" My jaw dropped. He was sitting there shirtless, flexing his huge muscles. I bit my lower lip.

Shit. Did I say it out loud ?

"Yes, you did. And you did it again now." He laughed deeply.

My face flushed, I dashed out of the room. Damn, that was embarrassing.
