K A I R A
After breakfast, Mr. Shekhawat and Sitara went to Mr. Das for check-up. I hoped nothing was too serious. Later Mr. Shekhawat called Aarna maa to inform it was just the flu. I was relieved.
"Kaira, please do me a favour. Can you please keep these towels in Devansh's room? The other maids are cleaning the store room and others are working in the garden. I hope you don't mind." She requested with pleading eyes.
"No problem, Aarna maa. Give them to me. I will keep them." I took those towels. I climbed up the stairs to his room. I turned the door knob, unlocking the room. I placed the towel on the bed. I sighed then suddenly my eyes landed on something. It was a camera in his bookshelf, between many thick books and small statues. It was more like a showcase.
I had never seen him using the camera. Maybe it was a fake camera to make the appearance more magnificent. I hadn't noticed his room properly, ever. It was of a dark aesthetic. It was painted with grey, black and white colour paints
Dude didn't have much idea about colours I guess. Who paints their rooms with these dark colours ? At Least he could have used red colour, after all that's how his warehouse looks like. Oh god, I still couldn't help but think about the look and smell of his warehouse.
That metallic smell of blood. The walls had splashes of blood. It was like no one has ever cleaned them in centuries.
I realised how I was judging his room like a creep. I instantly exited his room and locked it as it was before. I was about to descend down the stairs when something struck my mind. On that floor, the only room I had noticed was Mr. Shekhawat's and Sitara's room.
I walked backward and then I saw it. There was a door or perhaps a room at the corner of the hallway. The part of the floor was dark. I could just see a flower vase near the door. I made my way towards the darkness. I wasn't scared of the dark so it was easy for me to get there.
I observed the area, surprisingly when I tried to unlock the door, it wasn't locked. But it made a harsh screech sound, it almost made me scrunch my face with disgruntlement.
The room was filled with dust which blew at my face when I went inside. I sneezed but what I saw was utterly unexpected. There was a big picture of a beautiful girl. She was gorgeous, she had long black locks reaching till her waist, her eyebrows were thick and dark, her lips were plumpy painted with red lipstick, her cheeks were flushed with pink blush, her eyes could make someone dive into them. Her facial structure was perfect.
Her body was of hour-glass figure. She was wearing a red party dress.
I was gawking at her in awe.
"Oh my goodness. She is a goddess." Words escaped my lips.
I twirled around to see other photos. In one photo, Mr. Shekhawat was holding the woman by her waist while she was kissing his cheek or probably his jaw. They were at a beach. They looked like an idol couple.
I felt a hint of jealousy but I promise not in a bad way, the real reason for jealousy was his smile. He had a really big grin as if he was the happiest man. I sighed for some unknown reason.
Then I heard a car honk. I jolted towards the window and from the crack of the window I noticed Mr. Shekhawat's car pulling in. I rushed out of the room, closing it. My ears were displeased after hearing the sound of the door again.
I saw Sakshi holding Sitara in her arms while proceeding up the stairs. She sent me a smile when she saw me on the top stair. We went into Sitara's room. Pup suddenly jumped from nowhere and snuggled to my leg. We chuckled.
When Sakshi tucked Sitara in her bed, I sat beside her. Pup hopped in my lap and started licking my hand. I caressed him lovingly. Sitara coughed, making our heads snap towards her. "Don't worry, Kaira. She just caught a cold, that is it." Sakshi stated. "oh..! I know,it means she will get better soon." I said.
She nodded her head giggling at the tiny figure, who rolled to me and hugged my lap. From one hand I patted Pup and with another I stroked Sitara's hair gently.
"Mum-mum. Mumma." All of a sudden Sitara started blabbering in her dreams. It dragged our attentions while we were talking about our college days. Sitara was throwing her hands in air while tears sliding down her cheeks. "SO-SOWWY. I PWOMISE, I WON'T DO IT AGAIN. SOWWY. NO." We gasped loudly when she started crying loudly, almost bursting out our eardrums. She was now sitting but still shedding tears.
"Shit. Not again." Sakshi stomped her feet and barged out, pulling out her phone. I was about to ask 'what not again' but she had already left. I tried to calm her by holding her in my lap but it made it worse. She was kicking and hitting which terrified me. I kept her on bed and tapped her chest to calm her but all went in vain.
I heard strident footsteps. Mr. Shekhawat dashed through the door. His eyes were glaring fire balls. His jaws were clenched tightly. His nose was flaring with wrath. Punching the wooden door almost bursting his knuckles, he strode inside. Without caring about his shoes, he got on the bed and hovered upon Sitara. He scooped her in his arms, her mini, fragile body protected by his arms. His bloody fingers massaging her scalp.
The thing that surprised me was—how Sitara instantly calmed in his arms? Without seeing she understood it was her father. He shushed her so easily like a mother. She was hiccuping while he was bouncing her in his arms.
