Jai
I park in front of the hotel, arriving much later than I intended. I just didn't want to leave. I had the best day of my life with her today. I slowly move as not to wake her. She's out cold against my shoulder. I grab her purse and I wouldn't normally do this but I open it to search for her key. It's right inside. I grab it out and move slowly, setting her back along the cushions. I get out and step around to open the door for her. I pick her up gently and hear a soft sigh as she rests her head in the crook of my neck. I realize how light she actually is and how nice it is to hold her in my arms. I shake the thought out of my head and carry her to the reception. The bloke working the desk actually opens the door for me. I thank him quietly and carry her to her room. I use her key to open her door. I pull the sheets back and set her in bed. I'm about to cover her up when I notice her shoes still on. I gently pull them off revealing the cutest socks on her feet. I smile, covering her up. I can't help myself from pushing her hair aside and caressing her cheek. I set her purse and key on top of the bedside cabinet but then I recall she needs my guitar first thing in the morning as well as all of her things in the car. I decide to hold onto her key. I step out and close the door with a gentle click. I stride back to the jeep and grab all of the bags. The bloke at the desk gets the door for me again. "Thanks, mate. Appreciate it," I tell him.
"Don't worry, mon. We're all rooting for ya," he says and I recall that means something different elsewhere than 'Straya. I think he means barrack.
"No worries, mate," I tell him. I'm struggling not to laugh. I get back to my room and set the bags down. I look through everything and separate hers from mine. I'm almost tempted to put the centipede on her bedside cabinet but that'd just be mean. I'd get woken with a scream with no way to get in there. I carry her bags and my guitar over. I open her door as quietly as possible and set everything down. I do pull the centipede out of the bag a little but it won't be the first thing she sees when she wakes up. Yeah, I'm a larrikin but this'll be hilarious. I sigh and look back to her and gravitate towards the side of her bed. I set the key down once more and I'm so tempted to pash her. But I don't. I grasp her hand and kiss the back of it.
"Goodnight, love," I tell her.
"Goodnight, Jai," Megan yawns before rolling over.
I stare at her in shock that she's either awake or talks in her sleep. I blink a couple times and leave her alone to sleep.
I shut the door and call up my mum."What are you doing up so late, love? Isn't it past midnight?"
"Yeah, just past. I spent the day with her. I didn't want it to end."
"You sound like your dad and me."
"Yeah?"
"Defo. I knew it was love then."
I close my eyes and wonder if it really is.
"You still there, love?"
"Yeah."
"So what'd you do?"
"I took her to the closest CBD and we just hung around together. We got some tucker. I bought her some gifts. This morning... we went to the hospital. We gave out toys to kids. It... was probably the best thing I've ever done with my life."
"I'm so glad you're doing those things. I really want you to bring this one home. I think I'm already falling in love with her."
"She's singing again in the morning. You could watch it live if you stay up... or just when you wake."
"That's nice, love. You better get some rest."
"Alright. Goodnight, mum."
"Goodnight, love."
I hang up and sigh. Is this what love feels like? Because if it is, I've never been before...
I get ready for bed and drift off thinking about how great today was.
