Meg

I step into the house after work.  I came here for lunch, a change of clothes, and some supplies.  I eat a sandwich and some raw veggies quickly and then put on some jeans with holes and an old paint shirt so that I don't ruin anything.  The fridge at church looked like it needed a serious cleaning the last time I saw it.  I go down to the basement and find a big cooler.  I carry it upstairs and fill it with some ice.  I also go to the tool box downstairs, finding an extremely long screwdriver and a rubber mallet.  Those'll work.  I come back upstairs and head for the door with my haul.
My mom asks me what I'm doing.
"I'm going to the church.  I'll be back soon, I hope," I tell her since I'm not expecting this to take more than a couple hours.
"Alright," she smiles.
I load them up in my backseat since this gargantuan cooler will never fit in my dinky trunk and I make the drive to church.  I scroll to the code for the key lock, remove the key from the lock box, and unlock the door.  I replace the key and turn the combination.  I step inside with everything and close the front door, locking it just in case.  My parents have insisted that I keep doors locked.  I told them about the incident at the hockey game and they want me to stay safe.  I think they're afraid Spencer might do something rash and I realize he might've while I was gone.  My parents put a restraining order out on him for a reason.  Maybe I should be a big girl and ask about what occurred.  Hiding and just pretending like things didn't happen are not going to help me in my future.  I'm an adult and I need to grow up.
I drag the cooler toward the kitchen, setting down my purse and coat on a chair in the sanctuary on the way.  I set the cooler outside of the kitchen since I don't think it'll fit inside.  Plus, I need to be able to move around in here.  I open the refrigerator and examine each item.  I throw away a few expired things, hauling the trash can closer for ease of reaching it.  I empty the rest of the contents into the cooler and close the lid up.  Then, I unplug the refrigerator so I don't waste any electricity.
I put some water in the coffee pots heating it up.  I've heard about using boiling water to thaw a freezer and I hope I don't burn myself since I've never done this before.  I'm familiar with the chisel method, though.
I play some music on my phone, setting it aside out of the way.  I wipe some filth out of the fridge and throw the paper towels away.  Next, I start to use the extra long screw driver and a rubber mallet to break up the solid brick of ice encompassing the freezer.  I begin to hammer the front.  The chisel at one point goes straight to the back so I attempt to angle it in a way that will break that section off.  As I continue on, I realize the larger the piece, the more it refuses to release.  It takes a while but I start knocking off some chunks.  I toss each piece into the sink.  I continue on getting in a rhythm of breaking away smaller pieces since that seems to work best.  After probably an hour, I roll my shoulders since this almost feels like a workout.  I feel like I've done hundreds of pushups.
I knock off section after section, throwing the pieces into the sink.  I pull out the frozen ice cube trays but they look kind of filthy and moldy even.  They're plastic... so I toss them in the trash and figure I'll go to the dollar store sometime to get a replacement.  Then, I chisel out what looks like a package of frozen snacks.  I think those were for the kids.  I throw them in the trash, too.  They were completely freezer burnt.  I pull the rest of the plastic from that package out and then continue to hammer away at the solid block of ice.  It takes some serious time but I pull off the very last piece.
I smile and step back thinking that I didn't need the hot water.  But then I notice a block of ice outside of the compartment between the freezer section and the top of the unit.  I also see another one on the underside of the freezer between the fridge and freezer.  There's a divider and I notice some mold and pink slime on it.  That has to go.  I try to reach in there with the chisel but it's really difficult and I'm afraid I'm going to break the plastic divider.
I sigh and wash my hands.  I get out some dishes from the cupboards and pour the hot water into them.  I use hot pads to place the water as close as I can to the ice in the fridge.  I accidentally spill a little on my shirt and it didn't burn too badly.  I'll just have to be extra cautious.  I carefully set the dishes inside and close the door.  I hope the steam and heat will help to melt it a bit.  I decide to clean out the cupboards and organize the kitchen while I wait.  I check on the ice often.  It's working but it's taking a while.  I start to notice there's water dripping inside the fridge so it's doing it's job.  I check the temperature of the water and it isn't as hot so I start up the water in the coffeemakers again.  I see a puddle on the floor around the fridge and I wipe it up but I open the door and realize that was stupid of me.  I wipe inside of the fridge and leave some paper towels in there.  Then I wipe the floor again and leave some paper towels shoved around the door and underneath to catch the next spill.  When the hot water is ready, I pour the water out of the containers and melt most of the ice in the sink.  I laugh at how quickly that disappeared.  I dump the hot water into the dishes and put it back in the fridge.  I clean up the whole kitchen while I sing—the countertops, the floors, the cabinets...
