Ch.40 The meeting with the Hokage

Naruto looked around himself cautiously. He knew that the followers of Danzo we're still around promoted back to 'normal' Anbu. Obito seemed just as aware of Naruto despite Naruto never telling him about Danzo's little army of followers. It's not surprising though. Obito is no fool.

Finally Jiraiya led them into the Hokage's office. The Hokage however, was not present.

"Unfortunately, we have to wait till he comes back from wherever he went." Jiraiya said snooping though the Hokage's files. Naruto guessed they were just mission requests.

"Because we can't have the both of you just walking around as you please." Jiraiya sighed. He was getting no visible reaction from either Naruto or Obito. He'd expect something from Obito. But Obito seems to have changed.

"Do you know what the Hokage is doing?" Obito asked the silence was just making him uncomfortable. Jiraiya shrugged before sitting on the Hokage's desk. "Since Danzo died Hiruzen has to step out of the office more often. Maybe not a bad thing." Jiraiya looked for a reaction from either of them but only got a shrug from Obito.

"Anyway." Jiraiya waved off any thoughts he had before and looked at the blonde. "How did you know Obito was alive anyway?" Obito stiffened slightly. Naruto shook his head. "I'm afraid I cannot tell you that, despite how bad that makes me sound." Naruto looked over at his old sensei. He had a calculating gaze.

Jiraiya sighed. "Of course, Tobi."

Some time after Naruto kicked the ground with his foot awkwardly.

Before any of them knew it. Obito was holding his face and stifling laughter. Naruto gave him a dirty look. Jiraiya looked between the 2 of them confused.

"Look. I know Tobi is not your real name. But what's so funny about it?" Jiraiya finally said he was genuinely curious. Obito was a blank slate up until he called Naruto Tobi.

Naruto stared over at Obito and back to his teacher. "I can't tell you my real name, sorry." Jiraiya shrugged. "Whatever I don't care." Jiraiya looked at Obito who had calmed down.

"Uh." Obito looked over at Naruto. Naruto nodded.

"Well uh. I used it as a fake name before." Obito was getting flash backs of when he had to act like a total idiot.

Jiraiya's eyebrow raised. "Fake name? Why would you need to?" Jiraiya stared at Obito. "Let's just say. That when I used the fake name Tobi I acted differently." Obito stared at Jiraiya.

The next second he was getting hit on the head by Naruto. "Yea! I know! He acted like a child when he was Tobi!" Naruto was getting annoyed by Obito's indirect teasing.

"A total... Idiot?" Jiraiya face was blank. Though, he was mostly confused. They found it so amusing, the name Tobi. But he could see it in both of them. The name wasn't someone who just acted like an idiot.

Jiraiya dismissed the idea.

Naruto collected his composure and so did Obito. And then the Hokage walked in, clearly confused.

"Jiraiya?" He looked over at Jiraiya who was sitting on his desk. The Hokage shooed Jiraiya off his desk and sat down.

"Ah well." Jiraiya started. Jiraiya scratched the back of his head. How am I supposed to explain this?" Jiraiya thought to himself. He looked at the Hokage and said. "Obito." Jiraiya pointed at the Uchiha. And Obito looked away from the glare he was receiving from the Hokage.

"What do you mean Obito?" The Hokage slightly raised his voice.

"Obito is not dead. He is right here." Naruto butted in. This conversation was going nowhere.

The Hokage turned his gaze from Obito to Naruto.

"I heard your friend bailed your other friend out of the interrogation room. Hurting several of our Anbu in the process." The Hokage seemed to skip over the idea that Obito was alive. Couldn't blame him.

Naruto sighed. "Yes that indeed did happen." The Hokage stared. Naruto continued "Sasuke is not a patient type of person." Naruto shrugged before he looked at the Hokage. Obito glared at Naruto in disbelief.

"I totally just said his name didn't I?" Naruto looked over to Obito. "Yes... You did." Naruto seemingly glared at nothing.

Hiruzen stared at the blonde in disbelief. "This was supposed to be the leader?" Hiruzen shook his head. "Sasuke? Your Uchiha friend is named Sasuke?" The Hokage looked at Naruto. "It's not impossible that his name is Sasuke, but in a clan... It would be strange." The Hokage shook his head. "It would also be strange that Sasuke was another code name, it must be the Uchiha's real name."

The Hokage looked back up at the nervous Naruto. "So Sasuke Uchiha is your friends name." Naruto gave no response.

"I'm assuming Tobi is not your real name either." The Hokage looked at Jiraiya. "It is not his real name." Jiraiya nodded. "I can't tell you what my real name is." Naruto repeated himself.

The Hokage sighed. "You would have told us your real name, if you weren't trying to hide something." The Hokage looked back at Obito.

"You are Obito? It's not some codename?" The Hokage narrowed his eyes. Where could Obito had been all this time?

"It is not. My real name is Obito Uchiha. The Kannabi bridge mission, I was crushed by a boulder." Obito pointed to his scarred face.

The Hokage looked down at his unfinished paperwork. His eyes tightened. Hiruzen had always felt responsible for Obito's 'death'.

"Kakashi has my eye, hence why I do not have one." The Hokage looked back up at Obito.

And as Obito was saying. He didn't have an eye. Obito even activated his Sharingan later in the conversation. The Hokage needed no further proof.

He looked identical to Obito, just older.

"I'm sure you know." The Hokage stood up. "Minato, your teacher is unfortunately dead. And so in your other teammate Rin." The Hokage looked at any signs of grief in Obito.

But saw nothing.

"You knew." The Hokage furrowed his brows. "I am. I was there when Rin had been killed, killed by Kakashi." The Hokage furrowed his brows. When they had sent backup... All the enemy Nin that most likely had any part of Rin's kidnapping. Were found dead. "You... You killed all of them. Didn't you." The Hokage narrowed his eyes when he received no response. "There had been traces of wood style jutsu. Was that you?"

Obito stared at the Hokage avoiding the gazes of Naruto and Jiraiya. "It was. I am capable of using wood style jutsu." Obito stared at the shocked looks of Jiraiya and The Hokage. Although Naruto, he showed no signs of being surprised or shocked. That means Naruto had already known.
