Aurick pulled out the communicator he'd been given to contact Xanth. "This is Aurick, I need to speak to Xanth."
A few seconds passed before Xanth answered. "That was fast, do you have the money?"
He needed to proceed with caution, if he said the wrong thing Xanth would pack up and leave and he likely would not return. "We have the funds to make the originally agreed upon purchase price, but I have not been able to raise the additional funds."
"Then why am I speaking to you?" Xanth snapped.
"I have a proposition for you."
"Tell me quickly before I lose what little patience I have left."
"My men captured three prisoners, we believe they're spies from Dathnya but their leader claims they came through the Ring from a planet called Earth."
"Earth?"
"Yes, I doubt they speak the truth but I thought they would at least fetch you a good price in the slave markets."
"I'll return to the capital and take a look at these prisoners. If I deem them comparable compensation you'll have your weapons."
Aurick felt a great deal of relief. "Thank you!" He prayed that Xanth would agree to accept the spies as compensation for the balance of what they were asking for the weapons.
Xanth followed Aurick into the building and to the cell where the prisoners were being kept. The country's leader was a good foot shorter than he was and Xanth could see where the man's hair was beginning to thin atop his head. The deep blond was woven through with strands of gray. He didn't like the leader of Luskoyovi, he was a greedy bastard who only cared about taking what belonged to his neighbors. Xanth was in the business of providing that which people needed, he could care less about the fact he was assisting the little balding man to obliterate his neighbors. If everyone got along then he and his boss would be out of business.
Aurick indicated the three occupants of the cell. "Here they are."
Xanth studied the three with a frown. The uniforms were most certainly from Earth. "Who are you?" he demanded.
One of the men rose and moved to stand near the bars. "I'm Colonel Malachy Hughes of the United States Air Force. Who are you?"
"Who I am is of no importance." He reached through the bars and grabbed Malachy's left arm. "You wear the patch of the Earth Stargate."
"Don't know what you're talking about, we found these uniforms."
Xanth laughed. "You lie." He released Mal, before he could step away, Xanth grabbed his right arm and studied the patch. "SG-1. You are quite the prize." He released him and looked at Aurick. "You have a deal, these three are ample compensation for what you owe the Lucian Alliance. Your weapons will be delivered immediately." He gestured his men forward. And pointed at the prisoners "Bring them with."
