The purpose of this report is to inform those with clearance about the discovery of the Stargate and the program put into place for its use.
The object discovered in Giza, Egypt, in 1928 by Professor Langford and now known as the Stargate, was stored for years by the department known as Stargate Command (hereby referred to as the SGC) before it became active when an alien incursion occurred, the Gate was in storage at the SGC base located within the Cheyenne Mountain Complex under the control of the U.S. Air Force.
The Stargate is a standing ring made of a material known as naquadah (a quartzite metal that is not found on Earth). It weighs 64,000 pounds and is housed in the U.S. Air Force base within the Cheyenne Mountain complex. The stationary outer ring and the concentric spinning inner ring work together to set the destination coordinates that permit interstellar travel through a wormhole. The outer ring contains nine chevrons that lock on the inner ring's symbols (or glyphs) to complete an address that allows travelers to move to other planets. Seven symbols are used to set a destination within Earth's galaxy, eight are used to set a destination in another galaxy though a tremendous amount of power is needed to travel outside Earth's galaxy.
Once it was established that the Gate was a viable means of traveling to other worlds the SGC formed teams to explore off-world. The mission of the SGC teams is to gather intelligence, possibly trade for technology, and find allies who would aid in the fight against an alien race known as the Goa'uld.
The original program was instituted in the 1940s but benched after Dr. Earnest Littlefield stepped through the Gate and vanished. The program wasn't jump started again in 1997 after the Goa'uld incursion onto the base. It has been in continuous operation since then.
The SGC personnel have stopped numerous attempted alien incursions over the years. It is the Earth's first defense against an alien incursion. This program will remain in place to ensure the safety of the people of Earth.
