Nesrin stood and watched as they fired on the planet.

"They're returning fire."

"Shields," she commanded.

"Shields are at full power."

The ship was rocked by the impact of the weapons that had been launched from the planet. "Fire on them again!"

"Yes, Nesrin."

They went back and forth with the citizens of the planet for a while. Nesrin cursed the Ancients and their weapons. They needed to do something before their shields failed. She was not going to allow them to escape the wrath of the Alliance.

"Use it," she yelled.

"But ... Nesrin we don't even know if the new acquisition will work! We haven't finished running tests. It was difficult to interface it with our systems!"

She spun and advanced on the technician who had spoken. "I don't want your excuses! If we lose this battle they will believe it is their right to thumb their noses at us! I won't stand for it! Use the weapon or the next thing I throw at them will be you!"

The tech scurried away to prepare the weapon.

Nesrin returned to her position near the window.

"Do you think it will work?" Amais asked.

"It won't matter either way, will it? If it works we win, if it doesn't we die." She shrugged.

Amais nodded and figured there was no correct answer to that statement.

The entire ship shuddered when the Furling weapon was fired. The ensuing explosion was large enough to be seen from their position above the planet.

"We're receiving an incoming transmission," the communications officer called out.

"Perfect, let's hear it."

"I am Urvan the Ductere of Elarecira, why are you firing on our city?"

"I am Nesrin, leader of the Lucian Alliance. You use technology that belongs to the Ancients, as you can see we have more powerful weapons. We attack because we can. Surrender to us or we will destroy your cities and pick through the remains for whatever we wish to take. I'm certain it won't matter to your people since they'll be dead."

"We are more than happy to discuss peace. Where do you wish to meet to discuss the coming together of our peoples?"

"I will come down to your city." She waved a hand at the communications officer and he cut off the communication.

Amais frowned. "Are you sure it's a good idea for you to go down there?"

"I'll be fine." She tapped the personal shield she wore. "They can't touch me."

"Good luck, I hope they have something worth taking."

"Whether they do or not, they will be destroyed." She spun away and left, her guards fell into step behind her. "You are in charge of the ship while I'm away!" she called back to Amais.

"Yes, ma'am."
