A new SG-1 team has been formed by General Samantha Carter, who now leads Stargate Command. Join Colonel Malachy Hughes as he and his team step through the Gate to explore the galaxy. They'll meet new friends, old enemies and discover what it truly...
Mal leaned his head back against the wall and watched the new guards take over the watch outside their cell. As the old guards left, Milek rested his hand on his weapon where it hung at his hip and grinned at Lee.
She batted her eyelashes at him. "I'll miss you too, big guy."
He curled his lip, turned and left. It seemed to annoy him that Lee didn't fear him.
The two new guards began speaking in low tones as the other two guards disappeared around the corner. Whatever they were talking about they were trying to keep to themselves and doing a crappy job of it. Mal scooted closer to the bars, rested his head against them and closed his eyes as if he were sleeping.
"Arguing it with her is useless, she would take off our heads if we attempted it, but I still think it's an idiotic idea," the first said.
"It seems like a decent plan to me," the second answered with a shrug.
"It would be better if we killed them, not sell them to the highest bidder! Leaving SG-1 alive is moronic. It will come back to bite us in the ass, count on it. And orbiting Telar while she sends Xanth down to negotiate the sale is even dumber. We should go to another planet and gate over so there's no chance the buyer can take our ship by surprise."
"I suppose so, still, she is the leader."
"Yeah, I just don't like it. The least she could do is allow us to keep their weapons. Selling them along with all their little toys makes this entire thing even more idiotic," the first man argued.
"That bit I can agree with," his companion said.
They moved on to other topics and eventually fell into mostly silence.
Mal moved away from the bars and gestured for Lee and Van to join him in the back corner of the cell. "I think I know how we can get out of here." He took several minutes to quietly explain to them what he'd overheard.
"I don't know, it will depend on how many guards they send down with us," Lee replied. "And how many men the buyer has with them."
"I know, but this is our best chance at escape. The planet we're going to has a Gate. All we need to do is get away from them long enough to dial and step through."
"Or jump through at a dead run," Van muttered.
"However we can get through it, we go. Once Nesrin sells us off there's no telling where we'll end up. We could end up on a planet with no Gate. They could separate us. This may be our only opportunity to escape," Mal reasoned. "Van try and stay back out of the way, let us handle taking down the guards."
"I feel so useless."
Lee slapped him on the back. "Come on, you aren't useless. Neither of us can read any ancient languages or recognize ancient cultures. We need you for that."
"When it comes down to a fight I am useless." He sighed. "If we get back, can either of you teach me at least some basic hand to hand moves?"
Lee nudged him with her shoulder. "When we get back I'd be happy too."
"Same here," Mal added. "Let's get some rest, there's no telling when we'll get to this planet."
