Mal double checked his equipment. He was ready to step through the Gate, all he needed was the rest of his team to show up.

Captain Kain strolled into the Gate room with a huge grin on her face. "Ready to go, sir?"

"Yes, where's Evander?" He looked past her to the door.

"He's coming, Dr. Jackson showed up to wish us well and of course Van started asking questions. I think he's a little nervous about encountering his first alien anything. When I left Dr. Jackson was giving him a pep talk."

"Great, I don't need him chickening out at the last minute," Mal muttered.

"Doubt that will happen, he's excited about this."

Evander entered the room with Daniel beside him. "Okay, but what if—"

"Relax, Dr. Walsh, you'll do fine," Daniel told him.

"Yes, okay, I guess. Thank you."

Daniel chuckled and looked at them. "Good luck."

"Thank you, Dr. Jackson," Mal said.

"Please, call me Daniel. You're welcome." He waved and left the room.

General Carter's voice came over the PA system and they looked up to the window above the Gate room and saw her standing in the room where the computers that controlled the dialing device for the Gate were located.

"You are cleared to disembark, SG-1. Good luck," she told them. They saw her make a motion to one of the men in the room and the inner ring of the Gate spun, stopped and one of the chevrons clicked, lit up, and locked into place with a metallic thunk. The device continued to turn as the chevrons locked into the place. There was a fawhoosh and the wormhole engaged in a spectacular splash of outward energy before it settled into place. The surface of the event horizon rippled and glowed.

"Damn, that was awesome," Leonore remarked as they slowly walked up the ramp.

"It was pretty spectacular," Mal admitted. "Shall we?"

"Me first!" Evander called out, darted past them and jumped through the surface of the event horizon.

Leonore chuckled. "Guess we should follow him."

Mal grinned. "Yes, we wouldn't want the puppy to get lost."

She burst out laughing and stepped through the Gate.

Mal turned, saluted General Carter, then stepped through the Gate. Seconds later he stepped out the other end and found Leonore several feet from the Gate helping Evander up from the ground. "Everything okay?"

Van groaned. "Yes, I neglected to remember you exit the Gate with the same sort of force you enter it. I went in at a run, and came out the same. I stumbled and landed on my face. I'm glad no one was here to witness it."

"As long as you're not injured then we should get moving," Mal said.

"I'm good." Van dusted himself off.

Leonore grinned. "I think it was only his pride that was hurt."

Mal struck off in the direction of the ruins. "All right, let's move. I don't want to hang around in case the locals show up. They weren't pleased when SG-12 asked to see the ruins."

Evander hurried to catch up to him. "Yeah, from what I read they threatened the team and told them to leave."

"That's not true, they told the team that the spirits at the ruins wouldn't allow them to enter the place," Leonore told him.

"Sounds like a threat to me," he grumbled.

They trekked across a field and through a scrubby forest.
