Amber's POV
I had just woken up and I heard Luke on the phone. "Hello?"
"Uhh.. Yes sir this is Luke Bryan"
"Okay! Yeah you got yourself a deal"
"Thank you so much!"
Luke hung up ran into our room. His eyes were huge. "What happened?" I asked. "I got it... I really got it." He said. "Luke, be more specific. What did you get?" I asked again.
"I'm performing at the Grand Ole Opry" He said trying to catch his breath. I jumped up and hugged him. "When?" I asked excitedly. "Should be in about a month. If I success at a concert then one of my songs can be on the radio!" He finished. He was so excited. I couldn't wait to be backstage watching him have fun. He always throws a party when he has a crowd.
I looked out the window and saw Luke's little friend. Luke laughed and went out there.
Luke's POV
I saw the boy standing out there watching the horses. "Hey kid, what's up?" I asked. He looked over at me and said, "Nothing, just gotta get out of my house for a while." I looked over at him while he was standing on the gate. "Why?" I asked. "My mama and daddy are fighting again and I can't be in the
middle of it. Daddy always hits mama when she does something wrong." He said with a worried look in his eye. "How much does this happen?" I asked immediately. "About once a day. He hits her with a belt like he does me, but when he hits her he won't stop until she can't get up and I don't want him to hit me like that." The boy said. I got down on one knee. "Son, I need you to tell me more. Is this your real dad?" I said. He shook his head and said,"Yes sir. He got in a car accident with my brother and sister and they didn't make it."
I led the boy inside of our house and told Amber to watch him for a second. I grabbed my pocket knife and got in my truck. The boy told me his address so I sped down to his house. I heard screaming inside. The door was locked so I kicked it down. I saw a man standing over a lady with a belt. He asked, "Now who are you?"
"Your son knows me." I said putting my knife in my back pocket. The woman was shaking her head at me and it looked like she couldn't get up. "Oh yeah, Mr. Bryan. I beat my son for that. He ain't gonna do it anymore after he gets home!" The man said. "He's not coming home as long as you're here." I said. The man charged at me dropping the belt. I grabbed his arms and slammed him down to the floor. He looked so familiar! I shook that thought out of my head and kept the man on the floor. He rolled over and started pounding me in the face. I didn't think it would go this far. I grabbed his fist and I twisted them around so he couldn't hit me. "Run! Don't watch!" I told the lady as she got up. She ran out the door holding the phone calling 911.
I lost my grip and the man was still on top of me. I was starting to black out and I thought of my kids, the boy, and Amber. My vision started coming back and I used my legs to push him off. I got up as he tried to charge again and grabbed him. I saw the police lights coming down the road. I thought about him hitting that boy like he hit that woman and all it took was one hard blow to the side of his face and his knees buckled. He hit the floor. I was breathing heavily and my face was dripping blood. I didn't feel any pain till after the fight was over with. The police grabbed me and threw me on the car and everything was spinning. "What is your name sir?" They asked. "Luke." I answered. "Okay, and what happened here?" They asked again. I looked at the woman and she explained it all for me since I barely could talk. They took the handcuffs off of me. They asked if I needed medical assistance. I told them no and I'm fine. I rode back home with a huge cut on my face. Amber ran out, hugged me, and rubbed the cut on my face. "Luke?! What happened?!" She asked. When she asked that the boy ran outside and ran to me. "What happened?" He asked. I didn't really wanna explain it in front of him because it was his father. "Did my daddy hit you?" He asked. Amber eyes shot towards me. "Yeah. It's not a big deal. Just a cut." I said trying to calm Amber down. She kept questioning me. "Okay long story short, I got in a fight and got arrested. They let me go anyways." I said trying to make her smile again. She held the boys hand and led him back inside. She came back out holding a rag. "No, I'm fine. I don't need anything." I said. She shot that look at me again. "Okay okay...." I said backing off. I let her clean the cut.
We walked back inside and the boy was sitting on the couch. "What's your name, anyways?" Amber asked. "Dylan Grey." The boy answered. Amber and I looked at each other. "Are you related to Austin Grey?" I asked. He nodded his head "Yes sir, that's my daddy." I started laughing and so did Amber. Dylan looked confused. "Son, your father was the man I got in a fight with when I was little." I said. Dylan let out a little smile. "My daddy was always mean to me and I've always liked my mama more. I don't like to admit it but I hate my daddy.. He beats me up when I do wrong." He said. He lifted his shirt and showed me two scars. One looked was from a belt and the other was from a BB gun. A car pulled up and it was Dylan's mama. She ran out and hugged me. "Thank you! He was gonna kill me and Dylan!" She said. I smiled. "Are you okay?! You looked like you were about to pass out when they threw you on the car." She finished. I slowly looked over at Amber because I knew she was staring at me. I just smiled at her hoping she would smile back. Uh oh.... I knew I was in trouble.
