"I'll wait for you" [ch. 11]

"Come on, Akenon. You have to do something about Ishikawa liking you!" Megumi told her best friend. "You can't just leave him hanging forever." Megumi groaned. "I know, I know." Akenon laughed as she handed Megumi a gummy bear. "I just... I don't want to get together with him without asking Yukiichan." Akenon said as she popped a gummy bear into her mouth. "You've really matured haven't you? I never knew you were so wise." Megumi laughed as she put her drink down onto the bench they were sitting on. "I was always wise," Akenon bragged. "You were just to busy noticing my faults." She said as the two best friends broke into laughter. "Enough about me.. what about you and Miyamura?" Akenon brought up, raising both of her eyebrows up. "What? Oh, we're trying not to rush it too much." Megumi replied as she blushed a bit. "Aww, no dating yet?" Akenon's face drooped down. "Soon, but not yet. We're taking things slow." Megumi told her as she took a sip of her drink.

After they were done hanging out, Akenon and Megumi both went home together, since they were close neighbours. That's how they became best friends, really. When Megumi got home she saw her two older brothers, Toshiro and Touma, yelling at each other like always. Their mother wasn't home because of her late shifts, and their dad was at the publishing office as usual. Yamato was turning 25 that year and no longer lived with them, so their parents trusted him to take care of his siblings. That was a wrong choice, because the only person Toshiro and Touma listen to is their mother. Instead of calming them down, Yamato ended up having to slap them both and force them to stay away from each other.

"I don't understand why Okaasan wanted you to babysit us. I'm already 21." Touma muttered. "Shut up, you act like a baby." Toshiro insulted, which seemed to get on Touma's nerves but Yamato threatened to call their mother if they insulted each other one more time. Kiyoshi, the youngest of the brothers, was the most harmonious one. He seemed to never get involved in conflict and would prefer to paint his little sister's nails. Kiyoshi was so quiet and never got himself into any trouble.

"Kiyokkun!" Megumi called out from downstairs as Kiyoshi came down the stairway. "Yes, imotocchan?" He said with a smile. "Can I pretty please invite a friend over?" Megumi asked Kiyoshi because she knew he would be the only one to say yes. "Of course! I don't have to tell any of the others if you want." Kiyoshi told her. "Great! You're the best." Megumi replied as she gave him a thumbs up. Then she called Miyamura.

"Hey Megumi!" Miyamura greeted her over the phone. "Hello, Miyamura! I was wondering if you could spend the night." Megumi asked, making sure to keep a safe distance from her brothers so they wouldn't be able to hear. "Yeah, sure! I'll be right over." Miyamura replied as Megumi smiled. "Okay! See you then." she said as she hung up the phone.

When Miyamura came, Megumi pulled him outside and closed the door to warn him about her brothers. "Oh? What's wrong, Megumi?" Miyamura asked as Megumi closed the front door, and they were both outside. "Okay, my brothers can get a little bit defensive." She told him as Miyamura broke a sweat. "Yeah, I have some experience with that.." he said as he recalled last time he came over to Megumi's house. "This is so they don't get mad," Megumi pushed up her glasses. "So, don't call me by my first name, and make it look like we are just friends! But it's okay in front of Kiyoshi, we can act normal around him." Megumi told Miyamura as he nodded. "Three of my brothers won't even know your here, so these only apply just in case." Megumi smiled as she let Miyamura in.

Like always, Kiyoshi didn't rat Megumi out. Miyamura and Megumi ended up watching rom coms until 3am. Legally Blonde, Sweet Home Alabama, The Proposal, Clueless.. etc while eating warheads and popcorn. They ended up going to bed at 4am and waking up the next day at about 11am. When they woke up, they snuck out of the house to make sure Megumi's brothers wouldn't see them and went to get ice cream.

"What flavour, Miyamura?" Megumi asked as she looked at the menu. "Probably mint choc chip for me. Also, I've been meaning to ask you," Miyamura told her as Megumi lifted her gaze to look at Miyamura. "Can you please call me Izumi? If you're not comfortable, that's okay." He said as he chuckled awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck. "No problem, Izumi." Megumi replied with a smile which made Miyamura flustered as she went over to the counter to get the ice cream.

After they ordered their ice cream they went for a walk in the park, and sat on a pair of swings eating. "Megumi, what's stopping us from being in a relationship?" Miyamura asked out of the blue as Megumi's eyes widened in shock due to the sudden question. "Can you not see us together?" Miyamura said sadly as he looked at his shoes. "No, it's not like that," Megumi told him as he looked at her. "It's just.. I'm not ready to be in a relationship and I don't want to mess it up." Megumi's voice quivered as Miyamura saw how scared of being a relationship she was, and held her hand. "It's okay," He smiled at her as they met each other's gaze. "I'll wait for you." Miyamura told her warmly as they both looked at each other full of love and warmth.
