Chapter Ten

Derek's POV

I was in the abandoned train station. I was doing some pull-ups trying to clear my mind. Mackinzy McCall. She's the same high tempered, stubborn, beautiful girl she was a few years ago. We met about four years ago. I was walking down the street in some random town in Washington when I bumped into her.

She was bleeding, so I took her to a gas station and cleaned her up. We then met every Wednesday and just talked and hung out. I even tried to help her contain her anger. Then everything with Peter started happening and I just stopped seeing her. I knew she was born here and had some family here, I just never expected her to come here.

Her sass and resilience is amazing. She's been through hell and is still a wonderful person. She's also really beautiful. Her electric blue eyes are amazing. Snap out of it, Derek. You need to focus. Focus on how to get rid of this Kanima problem.

My cell phone rang pulling me out of my thoughts. I let go of the ledge I was pulling myself up with and land on the ground. I walk to my phone to see unknown number.

"Hello." I said harshly.

"Hey, Der. It's Mac." The girl who was just filling my thoughts answered.

"How did you get my number, Mac?" I know few people who I gave my number too. I know Mac wasn't one of them, only because her phone was dead last night.

"Boyd, now two things." She said but didn't continue. I waited a few seconds. Was she nervous to tell me?

"Yes?" I prompted, trying to get her to spit it out. Now, I have no issue with talking to Mac but I still need to get info on the Kanima.

"Well." She started. I hope this doesn't have to do with Erica, "You might have an angry she-wolf on your hands soon." Of course it does.

"Mackinzy!" I groaned. I don't like dealing with Erica on the daily basis, I hate dealing with her when she's angry. That girl has no boundaries, I swear.

"She tried to grab me, so I broke her nose." Mackinzy said all defensively. I growled lowly. I told them to stay away from each other. I also told Erica to not attack a human, because they don't heal as fast as us. I'll deal with her when she gets here.

"What else?" I asked, remembering she said two things.

"One of the Argents are gonna kill Scott." Her voice entered my ear. What? I stopped everything and frowned into the phone. Where the hell did she hear that? What the hell is going on? I thought the Argents were staying away from Scott.

"I'm on my way to pick you up, tell me everything you know." I said and hung up the phone. I grabbed my keys and my leather jacket. Just when I was putting it on, my three betas came through the door.

"Erica calm down." Isaac said to the she-wolf.

"No, the bitch's lucky I didn't rip her freaking face off." Erica growled. I growled loudly, getting their attention.

"No one touches Mackinzy McCall. Do I make myself clear?" I said in the deadliest tone I could master. They all nodded, looking at the ground. I glared at Erica one more time before rushing out to my car. I drove to the school as quickly as I could. When I got to the parking lot I could hear Mac yelling at some blonde dude.

"Look, I'm not interested!" She yelled and snatched away from him,. She then came to climb in the car. I glared at him as we drove off, and he returned the glare. It was more directed toward Mac though. We drove slowly back to the building.

When we were almost there, I glanced at Mac and remembered Erica. I decided to drive past it. It took us about 30 minutes more of silence to get to this area in the forest preserve.

"Who was that?" I asked her, referring to the guy she was with when I pulled up.

"Some kid who keeps asking me out." She replied to me. I don't know why, but anger and jealously filled me, "I guess he got mad cause I said no again." Relief filled me quickly. I didn't like the idea of Mac dealing with these stupid high school guys.

"Oh ok. Do you need me to speak to him?" I asked her. She chuckled.

"What are you gonna do? Flash your mean red eyes?" She said playfully. I chuckled and lightly shoved her playfully. She laughed and climbed out of the car. I followed her and seen her sitting on the front of the car.

"So tell me about this thing with Scott." I said, sitting next to her. I listened to her story of Allison and her mother talking. Anger coursed through my veins.

"When?" I asked her.

"I don't know. I just know that if Scott and Allison get caught, there's gonna be a mess." She said. A mess is right. She leaned against my shoulder. I put my arm around her shoulder and she leaned more into me.

"It's gonna be okay Mac." I said. Even though she wasn't raised around Scott, I know she still cares for him.

"Derek, can I tell you something?" She asked me. I nodded. "You have always been my rock. Since we've met and you helped clean me up. Even when you left, no matter how bad it hurt."

"Hurt?" I asked surprised.

"You were the only good thing in my life. Everything with my mom and dad. Then you just disappeared. I felt abandoned, but still you were the only real reason I stayed sane."

I was surprised. I never thought I meant that much to her. I just held her closer to me and stared out into the forest.
