Chapter Thirty Five
Mac's POV
I waited at Derek's loft waiting to hear any news from Isaac. He was keeping me updated with the situation via text. Peter left back to his apartment after I returned his motorcycle to his possession. He gave me a threat about scratching it and headed out. Now I sat nervously and alone. Stiles was gone when I got here. Peter said something about Lydia and a dead body.
"Okay, Mac. They will be fine. Just do something to distract yourself." I spoke quietly to myself. I was driving myself crazy, staring at my phone for an update. I looked around the loft for something to distract me. Anything would be helpful. I saw a lighter sitting on the counter, next to a role of paper towels. I walked up to it and examined it. It was on of the cheap ones. I ripped off a sheet of paper towel and set fire to it. The blaze quickly started engulfing the paper, and I couldn't look away. The orangish color of the flames mesmerized me. I wasn't paying attention when the flame reached my fingers. I dropped the burning paper in shock, though I felt no pain. Curious, I sparked the lighter again, but put my hand over the flame instead. To much shock ans surprise, I felt no pain. I moved my hand inside the flame and gasped as my whole hand started to engulf in flames. It was like I covered my hand in alcohol before I lit the flame. I moved my hand around, watching it dance around my fingers. I closed my hand into a fist, and just like that it was gone. It left no trace.
My phone chimed pulling me out my mesmerized state. I rushed over to it, noticing it was a text from Isaac. 'We are gonna trap them inside the school basement.' I grabbed my jacket and walked outside, realizing I had no clue on how to get there. Just then a car pulled in front of me. Allison Argent sat in the driver's seat as the window rolled down.
"Allison? What are you doing here?" I asked walking up to the window.
"I honestly have no clue. I was driving around, and ended up here." She said, but I knew that wasn't exactly true. I gave a look, calling her out on her bs. She sighed heavily. "I've been trying to follow Scott and Derek around. They met up with my dad but I lost them in the woods. I was hoping to drive past and possibly follow someone."
"Well, I know where they are." I spoke, and she looked at me hopefully talking before I could continue.
"Tell me, please. I just wanna help." Allison asked and I smirked.
"Two conditions." I said and she looked at me to continue. "One, you take me with you. Two, you teach me how to fight, weapons and all."
"What? Why would you want to learn?" She asked me, "And why me?"
"Well, I'm tired of being left behind. Also, because you are the most qualified. Derek can only teach me so much and most of his fighting involves claws. Something I do not have." I replied. She quickly thought about it, and nodded. I felt victory as I jumped in the car.
"Where are they?" She asked.
"They are trapping our two loose werewolves inside the school." I responded. She sped off toward the school. When we arrived, she grabbed a set of arrows and her bow. She ran toward the school, I followed closely behind. We climbed on top of a school bus and Allison grabbed an arrow. I heard her curse to herself.
"What's wrong?" I ask and she sighed.
"I grabbed the wrong arrows. These aren't the spark ones. There's no time to go back to the car, so I guess I have to just shoot them." She said grabbing the arrow and setting it up. I could hear the growling getting closer. I really didn't want Boyd or the other wolf to get shot. I reached in my pocket and felt the lighter from earlier. I must've accidentally pocketed it when I got that text. So glad I did because I had an idea.
"I have an idea, but you can't tell Scott or your dad." I said and lit my hand on fire, she looked at me like I was crazy. I touched the tip of the arrow and it engulfed in flames. Just then the two loose wolves ran up and she shot it, making the wolves stop in their tracks. She giving me a quick second to light the arrows, which was pretty badass but also pretty scary. I was afraid I'd lose the fire, but it just seemed to grow stronger. They covered their heads in protection. They turned and ran the opposite way, into the school. Isaac quickly shut and locked the door. He turned and looked up us, Allison took off.
"Mac?" He asked in shock. I knew he saw the whole thing. "How the hell did you do that?" My looked down at my hand that was still in flames. I closed my hand and they disappeared just like earlier. Isaac helped me down off the bus.
"I literally just discovered it. I was waiting for you text and was playing with fire and Bam! I found out about the hand thing! I finally have discovered some kind of control." I said overjoyed. Isaac nodded slowly still in shock. I started picking up the arrows, he helped as I explained what exactly happened and how I managed to get here. After we cleaned up the arrows, Isaac headed back the Mr. Argent, and I headed toward the basement, hoping the guys were successful in their mission. When I got to the stairs, I saw Scott waiting by the locked door.
"Did it work?" I asked, shocking my brother.
"Kinda." He replied. I gave him a confused look as I walked down the stairs.
"What do you mean kinda?" I asked and he just walked away from the door, toward me, "Where's Derek?" Instead of answering me again, he looked away from me. He looked toward the basement door. I felt the connection and my heart dropped to my stomach. I tried to move toward the door but Scott blocked me.
"Mac, you can't." Scott said.
"He's gonna die down there!" I yelled and tried to push past Scott but he grabbed me. His werewolf strength too strong. I tried to pull away, yelling for Scott to let me go. He wasn't budging. I felt heard sobs leave my mouth and I struggled. I couldn't let Derek die. We were fighting and I couldn't let that be the last memory for either of us.
"Mac, please." Scott asked and I felt all the fight leave me. I cried into my brother's shoulder as I thought of Derek ripped apart down there. I knew he would rather die then kill either one of the werewolves. I don't think I ever cried this much. I prayed to what higher power there was for him to survive the night. Scott moved us to sitting on the bottom stair.
"Scott, he can't die." I whispered to him, "I think I love him. He can't die." Scott just wrapped a comforting arm around me. He can't die.

While I watched this episode to write this chapter, I realized how scared Jennifer looked in the basement. I thought it was all an act a first. Cause we all know who and what she turns out to be. Now that I think about it though. I think she hadn't built up her strength yet, so the werewolves could've easily killed her. Too bad they didn't. A lot of trouble could've been saved.
