Chapter Two
Mac's POV
"Mackinzy!" I heard people yelling my name. I kept running though. Well, I was until I ran into someone's chest. A hard chest that knocked me down. I lay on the floor kind of dazed. That was an intense fall.
"Mac?" A familiar voice said. I looked up at the person I bumped into, an old friend.
"Derek?" I asked. He helped me up. Derek Hale, an old friend that I met about 3 years ago.
"How have you been?" I asked, giving him a hug. He hugged me back, tightly. Derek and I have this certain connection. We don't have to speak to communicate. We don't need to know everything about each other to be best friends. I don't know much about his past, and he doesn't know much about mine.
"Life has been pretty busy." He said. I agreed with him.
"Is that why you haven't visited me in a year and why you are wheeling Erica off to god knows where?" I asked, with my arms crossed. He sighed and crossed his arms.
"Yes that's why I haven't been visiting you and I'm giving her a choice." He said. I looked at him confused.
"A choice?" I asked. He nodded and started walking away, towing my friend.
"You better not hurt her!" I yelled after him. I wanted to chase him down and find out what he was doing, but something told me it was better not to know. I usually follow my gut feeling. When I don't, something bad usually happens.
"Mackinzy!" A voice called out. I turned to see my grandmother. She looked a little pissed. Okay, maybe more than a little. "Why the hell did you just run from that nice lady? Nurse McCall is the nicest nurse in the place." She said walking up to me with her arms crossed. I looked at her in disbelief.
"Do you seriously not know who she is to me?" I asked her, my grandma gave me a confused look, "Do you know who my father is?" She shook her head. Damn, my mother really kept her mouth shut about this. I mean, no one knew about this, for real?
"No, but what does that have to do with this situation?" She asked. I sighed.
"My father is Nurse McCall's ex husband." I said, "As in my mom got pregnant when they were married." My grandma's face dropped as she noticed what I was saying. I just shook my head. It was obvious that we were connected somehow. McCall isn't a very common last name.
"Wait, are you serious?" She asked in disbelief. I gave her a look. "Your mother told us she didn't know who the father was."
"Yeah, well she lied to you. She was good at that." I mumbled. I shook my head at my grandmother. "Can I go back to school now?" I asked, not really wanting to be there but not wanting to be here more.
"Yes, I'll call a cab." She said. I walked to the exit of the hospital and stood outside waiting for my cab. There was a boy standing by the woods. I looked at him confused. Why the hell is there someone standing in the woods? He looked at me, his blue eyes wide. He disappeared back into the tree lining. Okay then, this town is becoming super weird.
When I got back to school, I seen a girl with tears running down her face standing by a trophy case. I walked up to her.
"Hey, you okay?" I asked her she looked at me doe eyed.
"Yeah, I'm fine." She said absentmindedly. I could feel it in my gut that she was lying.
"Okay, if you say so. I'm not trying to pry. You just looked upset, so I was coming to check on you." I told her.
"Yeah, I'm fine." She said, finally snapping out of it and putting on a brave face, " I just got in an arguement with my boyfriend." She said and turned and walked away. Okay then. Just trying to be friendly. I realized it was lunch time, and followed the signs on the wall that lead to the cafeteria. I wouldn't have went if I wasn't so hungry. A girl's gotta eat.
After I got my lunch, I went and sat at an table that had a boy sitting at the other end. He didn't say anyone sat here, so I didn't get up. I started eating, when Scott's weird friend came and sat down in front of the dude. I listened to their conversation, amused at how Scott's friend was trying to get out of paying the 50 dollars he owed Boyd.
Yes, eavesdropping has its perks. Its how I learn people's name 75% of the time. Just as I was about to introduce myself to Boyd, I noticed everyone looking at the entrance of the cafeteria. An entered a new and improved, sexy-fied Erica. I kind of found it amusing how everyone stopped everything.
After she walked back out, I noticed Scott and his friend ran out after her. I decided to see where they were going so I followed them. I watched Erica get in Derek's car and they sped off.
"You boys didn't like that too much, did you? Well you know what they say, beautiful people herd together." I said, laughing and walking away from my now pissed off brother. Well that was definitely entertaining.
The day went by quickly after that. When it was time to go I headed to my newly appointed locker to get my stuff. As I was leaving it, a boy with a camera approached me.
"Um, hi, I'm Matt." The boy said, introducing himself. I smiled and stuck out my hand.
"I'm Mac." I said. He shook it.
"I was wondering if you would go out with me, like on a date." He said kind of awkwardly.
"You seem like a nice guy and all, but I just moved here and i'm not really interested in dating." I told him. He looked down with a hurt expression. He turned and walked away, making me kind of feel guilty but there's nothing I could do about it. I turned and walked out the building.
Well today has definitely been interesting.
