Chapter Thirty One
Stiles POV
Watching Mac walk into the classroom with Derek didn't sit well with me. The way those two stood close to each other, the way they interacted made this feeling fill my chest. That feeling was called jealousy and hated it. I used to feel it all the time when I looked at Jackson and Lydia. It's much worse with Mac and Derek though. He didn't deserve such an amazing and beautiful person like Mac. He was an asshole with 50 millions anger issues. I never really liked him but now I practically hate him. He got the girl, he got my girl.
I wanted to pull her to the side and talk to her. I didn't care about what. Her summer, this whole situation, Anything. We haven't really talked since the night Jackson turned into a werewolf. The night she chose Derek over me. Why did she even choose him? Was it because the thing with Lydia? Was it because he was better than me in some way?
I watched as Scott followed Derek to the door and they spoke in hushed tones. I looked at Mac. This would be the perfect time to pull her to the side. But as I stared at her vibrant blue eyes, I couldn't think if anything. I couldn't spit out how I felt. When she started following Derek out the room, I tried to stop her.
"Mac!" I called out but she kept walking. I groaned and turned at looked at Scott. He had on a sympathetic look. This girl frustrates the hell out of me. The bell rang, indicating lunch was over. We all started walking our separate ways to class. Scott and I started walking to Coach's economic class.
"Okay, what would a pack of alphas want with Erica and Boyd?" I asked Scott. This whole situation becoming confusing.
"I'm not sure it's them they want." Scott said.
"Okay, what, like Derek? Like they're recruiting?" I asked and noticed Scott was walking by me anymore. He was turned around looking at these guys. "Hey, Scott. You coming?" I asked getting his attention. He just started walking again. I just looked at him weirdly. When we got to class, Coach wasn't in there yet. I sat at my desk, twiddling my thumbs. I was looking at my phone. I had the new text message file pulled up. Mackinzy's name was in the contact space. I was trying to decided whether to press send or not.
'Why aren't you at school today?' I had typed in the text box. I just stared at my phone. There was a slam, making me jump. Coach walked in class. I quickly hit send before putting my phone in my pocket. I start regretting the message. We haven't talked in months and that's what I say to her? I just sat there, not really paying attention.
"Does anybody have a quarter? A quarter." I heard coach ask, I knew I had one in my pocket so I started to grab for it.
"Yep." I say and pull it out. I completely forgot about the condom that was in my pocket until it went flying across the room. Embarrassment filled me as I watched it hit the ground, practically in slow motion.
"Stilinski, I think you, You dropped this." Coach said picking up the condom and handing it to me. "And congratulations."
"Risk and reward. Put the quarter in the mug, win the reward." Coach set his mug on the ground. "Okay, watch coach." He got on his knees and flicked the quarter in the mug. We all clapped and he stood up. He then walked up to Danny's desk. "Okay, Danny. Risk, reward."
"What's the reward?" Danny asked.
"You don't have to take the pop quiz tomorrow." Coach said.
"Coach, it's not a pop quiz if you tell us about it." Danny replied. Coach picked up the quarter and glared at Danny.
"Danny, you know, I really expect more from you at this point. Really." He said and walked up to Scott.
"McCall. Risk, reward." Coach said to him. "If you don't put that quarter in the mug, you have to take the pop- the the quiz. And and you have to write an essay. Risk, more work. Reward No work at all. Or choose not to play."
"But isn't this just chance?" Scott asked.
"No. You know your abilities, your coordination, your focus, past experience all factors affecting the outcome. So what's it gonna be, McCall? More work, no work, or choose not to play?" Coach asked and Scott put down the quarter. "No play. Okay. Who's next? Who wants the quarter?" I decided to give it a chance and drummed on the desk. "There ya go! There's a gamblin' man! - Come on! - Step up, step up. All right, Stilinski."
I went to the front of the classroom, getting ready to try to get the quarter in the cup. I heard the door open but I ignored it and got ready to take the shot.
"Stiles." Coach said and I didn't look up.
"Yeah, coach, I got it." I said and Coach said my name again.
"Stiles." Well Coach turned out to be my dad. I walked out in the hallway. He was questioning me about Heather. No one has seen her since her party last night.
"I couldn't find her." I told my dad, " I just figured she'd hooked up with her other friends. Has no one really seen her since last night?"
"No. We put out an A. P. B., but, Stiles, all her friends say you were the last person who saw her." Dad said and I looked at him confused.
"Me?" I asked and he sighed.
"We hope that it's just a series of bad decisions based on too much to drink." He said, "But if you remember anything else, you call me." I go back in class and make eye contact with Scott. I knew he heard everything. I really hope Heather was okay. I didn't focus for the rest of class. I was too worried about Heather. What if the Alphas did something to her.
"So you think they kidnapped Heather to turn her?" Scott asked after I voiced my thoughts to him after we got out of class.
"Derek says it's easier to turn teenagers." I reminded him.
"But what would a pack of alphas need with a beta?" Scott asked me confused.
"Scott, I don't know. I don't care." I said, internally starting to freak out, "All right? This girl Our moms were best friends before mine died, all right? We used to take frickin' bubble baths together when we were three. I gotta find her."
"Then we need Isaac to remember." Scott said and I looked at him.
"How? Peter and Derek couldn't do it. You know any other werewolves with a better trick?" I asked him and Scott stopped walking, I turned and looked at him.
"Maybe not a werewolf. But someone who knows a lot about 'em." Scott stated and I knew exactly what he was talking about.
"Go ahead, call him!" I exclaimed and Scott pulled out his phone. Scott pulled out his phone and called Deacon. I listened as he explained the situation. When Scott got off the phone, I looked at him with hope.
"Deacon said he might have a way. We need to get Isaac and a lot of ice." Scott said, "I'm gonna call Derek and tell him to get to the Vet clinic." I did a small fist bump. We might be able to save Heather and I will probably see Mac there. Maybe this time I will get a chance to talk to her. We can save Boyd and Erica too. I really hope this works.
