Chapter Thirty Six
Mac's POV
A loud roar sounded from the basement, making me and Scott jump up.
"Scott the sun's coming up!" I heard Isaac yell. Scott unlocked the door and the three of us ran into the basement. We stopped when we noticed Derek kneeling on the ground near the two unconscious werewolves. I ran up and hugged him. He didn't wrap his arms around me, but I didn't care. He was alive.
"There's a teacher. I'll take care of her. Get them out of here." Derek spoke after I let him go. Scott and Isaac picked up Boyd and the other girl, and carried them out. I stepped back but didn't leave. I held out my hand and helped Derek to his feet. I looked at his abdomen and noticed his wounds. Tears filled my eyes, as the situation it me harder.
"You could've died." I whispered, still looking at his healing wounds.
"But I didn't." Derek spoke in his same emotionless tone he uses with everyone else. I snapped my eyes up to his, anger coursing through me. He almost died and he still has the audacity to be angry at me? Even though, I technically did nothing wrong. He wasn't looking at me, he was looking towards some pipes near us.
"Are you kidding me?" I asked as angry tears rushed out of my tear ducts. "You just almost died and you are still acting like a dick? Do you wanna know or even care how I felt about your little hero mission? I was scared to death. I thought I was gonna lose you. I thought the last memory we would have of each other was us fighting. Do you know what would happen if I lost you? Even if you are acting like a piece of shit? I would freaking lose it! Because I love you, but you're too stuck in your stupid ego and anger issues to see that!" By the time I was done talking, I was yelling. Derek was finally looking at me shocked. He tried reaching out to me, but I shook my head backing away.
"Mac-" He started but I cut him off.
"Forget I even said anything. Go help the teacher." I said bitterly, then turned on my heel and walked away from him. Yelling at him released all the energy I had left in me. I sat outside on one of the benches and ran my fingers through my hair. I wiped my tears from my face and tried to calm myself. I wanted to get home before I started sobbing like a baby. Just everything from the past few weeks is starting to weigh down on me. School, this Alpha business, my abilities, not knowing anything about my family, always being home alone, and a lot more. I put my knees up to my chest and planted my face in between them. I don't even know how I'm going to get home.
"Mackinzy, right?" I heard a voice ask. I looked up to see Allison's dad standing near me.
"I usually go by Mac, but yeah." I responded quietly.
"Would you like a ride home?" He asked and I nodded my head gratefully. When I arrived home, I gave him a quick thanks and headed inside. I went straight up to my room and passed out. A few hours later, I awoke to a thunking noise coming from outside. I sat up and looked out of my window to see a real estate lady hammering a sign into the front lawn. It said 'For Sale' in big blue letters. What the hell? I grabbed my cell phone and called my grandmother's number.
'Hello, Mackinzy.' She answered.
'You're selling the house?' I asked quickly.
'Yes, your grandfather and I decided to move to a house in Vegas that we purchased a few years back.' She replied.
'What about me? Am I just expected to move across country again?' I asked angrily.
'Actually,' She started and then sighed, 'It's just gonna be us too. We are sorry. We already raised a child and we aren't looking to take care of another. Social Services is gonna meet you at the Sheriff station. I'm sorry.' She spoke.
'Yeah, right.' I said sarcastically and hung up. I sat on my bed in shock. Are they really just throwing me away? Can they do that? I grabbed my phone and scrolled through my contacts. I stopped on Derek's name, but decided against it. I don't think I can face talking to him right now. I continued to scroll until I got to Isaac's name. I pressed the call icon and held the phone up to my ear.
'Hey Mac, what's up?' Isaac asked.
'Are you busy right now?' I asked him.
'Kinda. Dealing with Boyd and Derek's sister right now.' Isaac said. Derek's sister? I thought Peter and Derek were the only remaining Hales left.
'His sister?' I asked confused.
'Oh yeah, the other werewolf was his younger sister, Cora. We are trying to get some info about the Alpha's from them. Trying to see what they remember.' He said.
'Oh.' I responded.
'What's wrong? Did you need me?' Isaac asked, being the best friend I loved, but he was clearly busy.
'No, it can wait.' I said and we said our goodbyes. What the hell am I going to do? What the hell was gonna happen to me. I scrolled down my phone contacts some more. I pressed on another name and waited for the person to answer,
'Hey Melissa, it's Mackinzy. You know how you said to call if I needed anything. I need someone to talk to.' I said as she answered the phone. I sighed grateful when she invited me over to her house.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Damn, Mac is really going through it right now. Derek is still being a dick. She confessed her feelings. Oh, god.
