Chapter Fifty
Mac's POV
"Mac. Come on." Stiles said as I got ready in the bathroom.
"What?" I asked.
"You're taking forever." He said.
"Fine, here I come. Let's get this over with." I replied, coming out of the bathroom. Stiles convinced me to come with him to Derek's loft. He was on a search for Derek. Derek has been M.I.A for the past few days. After Boyd was killed, he up and disappeared, no one has heard from him.
When we arrived at the loft, we found Cora. She was sitting there reading a book.
"What are you guys doing here?" She asked.
"Ask him." I said, motioning to Stiles.
"What else? Looking for Derek." He said. "Or at least clues to where he went."
"Well, you won't find anything here. He's in hiding." Cora replied.
"What?" Stiles asked.
"He's hiding. It's what we Hale's do."
"What you Hale's do? What does that even mean?" I asked. Cora stood up and walked to the window. She looked out the window, it was marked by the mark of the Alphas.
"When Derek was younger, he was on the run from hunters. Almost killed too. Until Peter found him and they hid in an underground bunker." She explained. "They were there for two days. Waiting, hiding. That's what we're taught to do when hunters find us. Hide and heal."
"Okay? So is two days standard then or are we thinking Derek's on, like, some extended getaway?" Stiles asked.
"Why do you care?" Cora asked, turning back to look at us. I turned to look at Stiles because I was wondering the same. They don't like each other very much. From what I heard, they never did.
"Why do I care?" Stiles said "Well, let's see. Because of the last few weeks my best friend tried to kill himself, his boss nearly got ritually sacrificed, a girl that I've known since I was three was ritually sacrificed, Boyd was killed by Alphas. Do you want me to keep going? Cause I can, all right? For, like, an hour."
"Well those are some good reasons." I mumbled to myself.
"You think Derek can do anything about that?" Cora asked walking toward us.
"Well, since he's the one everyone seems to be after, it's more like he should do something about it, yeah." Stiles said.
"I don't know. There's something different about him now. He wasn't like this when I knew him." Cora said, looking off into the distance.
"He's been like this for as long as I knew him." I said. "As long as I've known him, Derek has always been the silent, keep all his feeling harbored, sour wolf that he is."
"What was he like?" Stiles asked. Cora looked up at the stairs instead of answering. Of course, Peter appeared.
"A lot like Scott, actually." He said. Derek, like Scott? "A lot like most teenagers. Unbearably unromantic, profoundly narcissistic, tolerable really only to other teenagers."
"We're you like that?" I asked in an overly sweet voice. Peter just scoffed and rolled his eyes at me.
"And so what happened? What changed him?" Stiles asked.
"Well, the same thing that changed a lot of young men. A girl." Peter said.
"You telling me some girl broke his little heart?" Stiles asked "That's why Derek is the way he is?"
