Chapter Twenty Two
Stiles' POV
"I just thought maybe I was on that list. But never mind, I can see I'm not." Mac said softly and started walking away. I could do nothing but stare after her. I couldn't make my body move. I couldn't force any words out. There were so many I wanted to say. I wanted to apologize. I wanted to spit out excuses.
There was no excuses though. The girl I'm starting to fall in love with was shot. Not only did I leave her all by herself in back room bleeding out, but I didn't even visit her. I couldn't face her though. I feel like it's all my fault. I couldn't face her. What if Scott had gotten killed? I was the only other person who knew where she was. I left her alone bleeding. I felt so guilty, it's ridiculous.
Of course, I did the idiotic thing and just ignored her existence. It was hard. She not only lived right down the street, but I passed her house everyday. It doesn't help that she's always on my mind.
It's like what I felt about Lydia times 10 with extra emotion thrown in there. I was more obsessed with Lydia than actually seeing her. I see Mac on clear eyes and I like what I'm looking at. She beautiful, inside and out. Her personality, her eyes, her smile. It's just everything.
I hit my head against my hand. I'm an idiot. I'm a huge idiot. If I messed this up, I'm gonna be pissed. I swear the god if I just pushed her into Derek's arms, I'll go crazy. Sour Wolf can not have my girl.
I headed to class. I'm just ready for this day to be over. I just want to focus on bench riding today. I need to focus on the Jackson situation. Now since Matt's dead, whose controlling him? Is he even being controlled? I really need to talk to Scott.
~
I stood there and listening as Coach started his signature speech. The same speech he does every year. From the same movie. I mean Independence Day was a good movie, but come one. Every year Coach?
"Good morning." He started. I shook my head. Here we go. "In less than an hour, aircraft from here will be joining others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind."
"What?" I heard someone ask. I looked to my right to see Ms. McCall looking confused. I chuckled on the inside a little.
'Mankind that word should have new meaning for all of us today." Coach said, staring off in space.
"What the hell is he talking about?" Ms. McCall asked me, tapping on my shoulder.
"He does this every year." I told her.
"Seriously?" She asked in disbelief.
"Yeah." I said
"We are fighting for our right to live." He said. The team cheered and I just watched. I'm on a team with a bunch of doofuses.
