CHAPTER 10

CHAPTER 10: Belated happy birthday

Johan's POV:

*sniff* *sniff* *whimper* *whimper*

Johan woke up at the sound of Eden's whimper.

"Ugh Eden! What? I'm still sleepy" Johan closed his eyes again when his other dog whimpered too.

"Fine. Fine. I'll go get you two some foods."

Johan checked the time and it shows that it's already 10 a.m.

'Looks like I really woke up late'

He then opened the refrigerator to see if there are foods that they can eat but he found nothing. Johan sighed in disappointment.

After brushing his teeth, he picked up his jacket and went outside. When Johan arrived in the convenience store, he picked up dog foods and ramen. While he is waiting in the line, he saw a cute cake beside the cashier's desk.

'Didn't Jona told me it was her birthday yesterday? I didn't get to thank her yesterday.'

When it was his turn, Johan paid the foods he bought including the cake and went home.

When Johan arrived at the apartment, he feed his dogs and cooked the ramen.

'Should I give this cake to her right now or later? Is she even in her room? Whatever, I'll go check'

*knock* *knock*

Johan knocked a lot of times but Jona won't open the door.

'Maybe she's not here'

"Aigoo~ are you looking for Jona?", the landlady asked.

"Ah yes ma'am"

"She went to her school earlier in the morning. Just wait for her. She'll be back around 4 or 5 pm."

"I see. Thank you ma'am"

"I'm glad you two got along well. You know, there are times I can see the sadness on Jona's face."

"I see. Do you have any idea why ma'am?"

"Well, I'm not sure. Maybe because she miss her family. She originally lived in the Philippines."

"Pardon? Philippines? She's not a Korean?"

"Yes. She's a filipino. I was surprised at first too. She almost looks like a Korean and she's even fluent in speaking our language. Hahaha."

"So boy. Treat her well okay? She must be feeling lonely from being apart of her family", the landlady said while patting Johan's shoulder.

Johan felt a throb in his heart. Thinking how Jona felt from being apart of her family makes him remember the feeling of being apart from her mother.

Jona's POV:

Jona yawned at her teacher's discussion.

'How boring. I wanna go home', Jona thought as she frowned while looking at the board.

'I wonder what Johan is doing right now. Is he alright? Gosh. That bastard doesn't really know how to take care of himself. But wait- why am I thinking about him?'

Jona shook her head to stop thinking and focus on discussion. Hours later, the class dismissed.

"Jona!", Mira excitedly went towards Jona.

"Mira", Jona greeted her with a smile.

"Jona we didn't get to celebrate your birthday with you yesterday. How about we go to an arcade right now as a belated celebration?", Zack asked

"That's a good idea! Daniel can come too"

After that, they all went to the arcade. They sang, danced, and played basketball. Mira and Jona went to a machine where there were plushies.

"Arrgghh", Jona groaned in frustration as she watches the plushie fell from the crane.

"Let me try Jona" Mira did the second try but she ended up getting disappointed.

"Don't worry Mira. I got this" Zack suddenly said and control the crane.

"Gosh. You always act cool in front of Mira.", Jona said. Zack just glared at her while Mira blushed.

'When will these two go on a date?', Jona smiled while looking at them.

Zack ended up wasting a lot of token just to get a 1 Pikachu plushie. After that, they all went to their home.

When Jona arrived at her apartment, she saw Johan leaning against the wall as if he's waiting for her.

"Johan?" Johan's face brightened when he saw her

"Oh. You're back. Did you eat already?"

"Not yet."

"Good then, let's eat. I cooked some ramen for both of us."

Jona got confused but she still followed him.

"Take a seat"

Jona sat at the chair and watched Johan served the bowl of ramen and water for her.

"Um.. Why are you doing this for me?"

"To repay my debt. I owe you one yesterday."

"Tsk. You don't have to tho."

"And also-" Johan pulled the cake from the refrigerator and put it in the table.

"Belated happy birthday Jona"

Jona went dumbstruck. Her heart is racing. She can't speak. Johan got shocked when he saw her tears slowly fell from her eyes.

"W-W-wait. Why are you crying? Do you not like the cake?"

When Jona realized that she was crying, she quickly wiped her tears and smiled.

"No. It's not that. I love the cake. It's just- unexpected and I'm really happy. Thank you Johan"

Johan felt like his heart has melted when he saw her smile but he did his best not to be obvious.

"Stop crying and let's eat. I'm really hungry."

"How old are you anyway?", Johan asked while eating.

"20. You?"

"We're the same age."

"Oh." Jona looked at Johan.

"Thank you for waiting for me earlier. That was so sweet of you."

Johan coughed upon hearing what Jona said. Jona quickly handed him the water and he drink it.

"Just finish your food. If you're done eating, you can go back to your room. And also, the reason why I'm doing this is because I just want to pay my debt."

'Tsundere', Jona smiled at Johan's reaction while Johan's blushing hard but tries to hide it by eating fast.
