CHAPTER 23

CHAPTER 23: Training II

Four days have passed and Jona slowly got used to the wooden equipment she’s training.

‘Should I try the next one?’

Jona looked at the equipment with a blade then closed her eyes with grimace.

‘N-no. Too dangerous.’

Jona looked at it once again and sighed.

‘Well, we won’t know unless we try.’

Jona slowly approached it. She stopped walking when she heard Daniel screaming. She quickly went to the door and opened it slightly. Peeking on what’s going on with his training.

“YOU SAID YOU ORDERED FRIED CHICKEN!!”, Daniel complained while punching so hard and fast at the air.

“I was just testing you, boy”, Sophia looked at him with a worried expression.

“AARRRGGGHHH!!”, Daniel went wild and punched even faster and harder.

“Pfft”, Jona couldn’t help but to laugh.

‘Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Chicken is Daniel’s favorite food Ms. Sophia. You shouldn’t have lied to Daniel like that.’, Jona shook her head and looked at Daniel with a slight smile on her face.

‘Daniel is training hard so I should train hard too.’

Jona closed the door and went to the equipment that has a blade. She tried moving one of its parts and when the other parts started turning she quickly stepped back.

“Iiiiii”, Jona looked at the equipment with a scared face.

“This is hard. I need something that will protect my body at least.”, Jona looked at her surroundings.

She walked and tried finding something that will protect her body. She saw a wooden cabinet and quickly opened it.

“Wooaahh”, she was filled with awe when she saw weapons inside.

“Gun, knives… hmm? Bulletproof vest.. Would this vest protect me from blades?”, Jona took the bulletproof vest and looked at it closely.

‘It’s big but I think I can still wear it.’

“Girl?”

Jona quickly put the bulletproof vest back and closed the cabinet when she heard the echo of Sophia's voice in the room.

“Ms. Sophia! Haha!”, Jona faked a laugh.

“What are you doing in that cabinet?”, Sophia’s eyebrow raised while looking at Jona suspiciously.

“Haha. Well…”, Jona diverted her eyes out of embarrassment.

Sophia approached her and patted her shoulders.

“Are you scared?”, Sophia looked at Jona with concern.

“Y-yes… actually, I was looking for something that will protect my body so that I won’t get scars while training with that equipment. I already got bruises just by training with the wooden equipment… I was scared that I might get even more injured in training with that other equipment.”

Jona looked down as she was embarrassed with what she said. She felt like she was just making an unreasonable excuse.

“I see.”, Sophia sighs. “Jona…”

Jona raised her head and looked at Sophia’s face.

“Why don’t we sit over there and have a talk?”

Jona nods at her suggestion and both of them sat on the floor.

“Why do you want to learn martial arts?”, Sophia asked.

“At first, I asked someone to teach me martial arts just for self defense. He’s a good fighter…. A really good fighter. If you see him fight Ms. Sophia, for sure you’ll compliment him. He always saved me when I’m in danger. He’s like my knight in shining armor. But as time passes….. I realized that my knight in shining armor is suffering silently… and he needed someone to save him.”, Jona opened up.

“I see. Do you like that person?”

Jona got surprised at her question which made Sophia chuckle.

“so you do..”, Sophia continued.

“Actually…. That person was once part of the four major crews.”

This time, Sophia is the one who got surprised at what Jona said.

“….but he had a reason. He did it for his mother’s treatment… he needed money.”, Jona continued.

“What’s the name of crew he ran before?”

“The God Dog crew.”

“I see. He was that leader who got betrayed by his people.”

“Yes… and the last time I saw him is the time he’s looking for someone. I conclude the ‘someone’ he’s looking for is the person named gun.”

“Hmm”, Sofia nods. “You’re risking yourself in such a dangerous situation just to help him huh. Also, I’m curious of one thing, girl.”

“What is it miss?”

“Are you a Korean or not?”

“No. I’m actually a Filipino. I came here in Korea just to study but the moment I came here, a lot of things happened that changed my life.”

“I see. We’re quite similar but different at the same time. No wonder I feel a bit fond of you.”, Sophia smiled.

“But Jona… a little advice from me. If you really want to reach your goal then, you shouldn’t give up. Strong people went through hard times.”, Sophia patted her shoulder and stood up.

“And also…”, Sophia turned her head and faced Jona. “just because you’re a girl, doesn’t mean you’re weak.”

Jona was quite surprised to see that Sophia has a soft side. She watched Sophia walking away with admiration in her eyes.

‘I can do it!’

Jona stood up and started training with the equipment with a blade. She got scarred on her arms but it’s not too deep since she quickly dodged it.

Days have passed and Jona has gotten used on training with the dangerous equipment. She even forced Sophia to let her do the same training Daniel does, which is to climb at the wall using bare hands.
