Dear Jesus,
"Who was he?" John asked me as we walked towards the auditorium after he had parked his Harley.
The ride had been silent, well, except for the loud purr of the bike and the whoosh of rushing wind.
"Just my course mate," I replied as casually as I could.
"We were paired for the BIO project and our presentation today was a hit."
"I see... But why were you laughing like that?" he had a quizzical look on his face as he asked that.
I wanted to say something but he quickly said, "Nevermind. Just be careful. I don't like the looks of him, Ray."
I melted by how concerned his voice sounded.
Lord, at that moment I itched to spill my confusion about Mike to John.
I mean, John was more or less like a really close brother to me (Urgh, the things I force myself to believe).
Plus, since he's also a guy, he could possibly help me to analyze why on earth Mike would just out of the blues ask me to be his girlfriend.
Like, who does that?
However, the caution of the Holy Spirit and the logical part of my sense adviced me otherwise.
I wouldn't want to be the cause of world war III.
I had wanted to say, "Me too, John. That guy gives me major creeps. In fact, he asked me out minutes before you came. Oh, what should I do?"
But sticking to your advice and suddenly seeing a chance to grab some fun, I stopped in my tracks and turned to look at John, a playful smile tugging the corners of my lips.
"What?" he asked, looking at me with eyebrows raised.
I stifled a chuckle at his clueless expression, pressing my lips together.
"Nothing."
I made to move on, but he came and blocked my way.
"Hey! You just looked at me weird as if you caught me committing a crime. Tell me what that was for?"
"Just nothing. Let's go in already. We have seven minutes to the start of the service," I said, pointing at my imaginary watch.
"Oh, now it's like that? No problem!"
He stepped aside and crossed his arms over his chest.
Was that a pout forming on his lips? Awwwnnn.
Gosh, he looked so cute sulking.
"Stop the childishness, John," I laughed.
"I just thought you were a bit overprotective back there. Geez, I felt the tension. If I must say, you seemed a bit... I don't know... jealous?" I said carefully.
I gauged his facial expression.
His grey eyes gradually dilated as his brain processed my conclusion.
His fair skin tinted a fairly-visible, rosy hue at his neck, jaw and cheeks.
I could see his unsuccessful struggle to hide it all.
John was actually blushing! My word!
I wanted to laugh for the second time in a row today.
The neck-rubbing thing that he did increased the cuteness of the sight.
"M-me? Jealous?" He snorted.
"Where did you get that idea from?"
I gave him a deadpan stare.
He continued to defend himself, "I- I was just concerned about you, that's all. That guy smells like real trouble to me."
He was the second—no, third if I count you—person to warn me about Mike.
But I was between the devil and the deep blue sea, apparently.
I grinned and hit John on his arm, trying to diffuse the seriousness of his words.
"I'll be fine, Grandpa!"
