«Any ex?» Lizbeth's question surprised me.
I was laid on Leoni's bed. Today was Meena's birthday, Leoni was with the dressmaker and the other women of her family but I could get away. I decided to text Lizbeth but I honestly didn't have much hopes in her replying because there were ten hours of difference between California and Greece but surprisingly she replied.
We started telling each how were our holidays going and without realizing it we were asking each other personal questions. If I had any ex was a question I had to think a lot. I haven't have any girlfriend before... The only similar thing I could think of was my fiancée, the girl with whom my parents engaged me when I was still human... Want it or not that's considered an ex and I didn't want to lie to Lizbeth... At least not more than the necessary.
«Yes.» I sent her.
«What's her name?» She started to get interested in the conversation.
I wasn't very sure if I remembered her name correctly so I hoped I wasn't mistaken.
«Amelia.» I answered her question as honest as I could.
«Did it end well?»
That question was very subjective, I died and turned into a vampire.
«We stayed as friends.» I couldn't tell her any of us were alive nowadays.
«Were you serious?»
Having into account we were engaged...
«Nothing serious. We didn't even spend six months together.» I didn't lie in the latter.
«Was she your first time?» I had to stop and reread that question a couple of times.
My first time? My first time was a human I drank from afterwards.
«Nope.» I answered briefly.
«Then who?»
The only thing I could tell her is that for me her name was food.
«Someone random without importance.»
It felt good to say the truth for once.
«Enough with your little interrogation. It's my turn to ask.»
«Ask.» She encouraged me.
«Any ex?» I copied her previous question.
«Yes.»
Her answer didn't surprise me, I already knew it.
«And what about your first time?»
I waited patiently to read her answer. She took her time and I thought about making it clear to her that she didn't have to answer if she didn't want to but her answer came before I could start texting.
«My ex was my first time. I have only had one boyfriend. We spent 3 years together but it ended a year ago.»
Lizbeth told me more than what I asked her and I was glad for that. I was really interested in knowing more about her past, about her life before I met her. Deep down I also wanted to know how did that first relationship of her ended or if she was happy in it, maybe even if she still cared about her ex but I didn't ask. I don't know what exactly told me that I shouldn't ask any further but I decided not to do it either way.
