"Tom, oh my god, where are we?" My vision was black, covered with Tom's palms. He told me to close my eyes 2 minutes before we arrived. Which seemed already a bit off for me, but well, here we are. I did anyways.

He parked, opened the door for me and still told me I'm not allowed to open my eyes yet.
He used his hands as a blindfold from behind, then led me around 200 metres until the sounds around me became louder and clearer.
I could hear children laughing, chattering in the background and the ringing and chiming of slot machines. I was even able to figure out attractions like roller coasters, and if not even a Ferris wheel. but I doubted that Tom had just driven us to Disneyland or some other adventure land.
Even though it would be fucking awesome! i've always wanted to go to disneyland.
"Wait a second... hold up... not yet..." He slowly balanced us a few more steps forward, by now more carefully. I guessed it was because there were so many people around us, or because Tom couldn't see what was in front of us since he was standing behind me and was doing his best to watch our feet so no one would slip.
But how was I suppose to know that with my eyes beeing covered?
All I felt was the gust of wind from the people passing by, laughing and talking.

"Okay!" his hands slipped from my face to his trouser pockets and my eyes quickly felt cold again. No longer able to feel the warmth of his palms.

I opened them, slowly. Letting them flutter open and take in all the coloured lights around me. This wasn't Disneyland, but Tom had actually taken us to the Santa Monica pier. How did he know how much I wanted to go here?! This is- "Crazy!" I screamed.
"What?" he asked, not getting my facial excitement expression.
"This is absolutely incredible Tom- oh my god!"
I jumped into his arms, wrapped mine around his neck and gave him a quick hug. But I was too excited to hug him for more than 3 seconds and wanted to explore the pier immediately.

"how did you know I always wanted to come here?!" I walked a few steps ahead, looking around in amazement. Through the dark starry sky above us, the pier shone even more brightly. All the colourful fairy lights, lights from food trucks and the Ferris wheel sparkled right in my face. "did someone tell you?" I added.
"No, no one did. I just know..." I dropped the subject, was too distracted to really talk. There was already something in the corner of my eye that had caught my attention.
"Oh look! they have cookie monster ice cream!" I pointed to the small shop that sold ice cream, right next to it a little bakery that selled cake and other stuff. "-and oh I bet they have cheesecake! I love cheesecake, especially the blueberry white chocolate cheesecake!"

Tom couldn't even get a word out of his mouth as excited as I was pulling him along behind me. First I wanted a cheesecake, then maybe the roller coaster, then I want to go to the arcades and try out a few gaming machines, drink a milkshake, and finally the Ferris wheel, and if there's still room, an ice cream. Or a waffle. Or a nutella pancake. Oh, or what about- "blueberry white chocolate cheesecake?" Tom questioned, pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah, have you tried it yet?" he shook his head. What a shame! "Oh you're in for a treat!"

Tom got us two of the blueberry white chocolate cheesecakes and we sat down at an empty table to eat in peace.

I think I stared a little too conspicuously when he took his first bite, but I had to see his reaction. "Something wrong?" he asked, fork still dangling loosely between his lips.
"what do you think? like it?" I ignored his question. WHAT DID HE THINK?
"Yeah, it's alright."
"ALRIGHT?! you've got to be kidding me!" I scoffed. Blueberry white chocolate cheesecake literally tastes amazing, not alright. AMAZING. Let me spell it out for you.
A-M-A-Z-I- "I mean it's good, nothing I could live off, but all right." I give up, this man just has a weird taste in food.

Nevertheless, Tom finished his piece of cake and we continued our way. But first we had to pass all the little food booths, which made it difficult to get to the attractions at all, but luckily we had just eaten earlier, which made it easier for me.

"Ever played air hockey before?" Tom asked as we made our way to the arcades.
"Once, against that stupid bit- goat Mary Anderson." Mary Anderson was one of the girls from my high school that made my life a living hell. She was always mean, fortunately not only to me but also to others, which was why I told myself at the time that it wasn't me but her nature. So I played against her when we were in the arcades with friends once, and who would have thought it, she won that time. I didn't really care, I bet she cheated anyway. Stubid b- Goat!
"Oh Mary Anderson. I remember her very well."
"who? she or her tongue?" I bitched, probably with a little too much jealousy in the back of my throat. I should mention that Tom and Mary were a couple for 2 weeks in 9th grade, just after the party where I had first kissed Tom.
"Come on" he sighed. "wanna know a secret?"
"A secret? What secret?"
"an embarrassing secret that will make you laugh." I already had to smile, nodding my head.
"I never liked Mary." He said. I gasped, covering my mouth with my hands. Okay I was smiling, if not even giggling but I managed to hold that one back.
"What?!" I screamed. He laughed, staring at me to catch my reaction.
"Yeah, it's true. She paid me with sandwiches during lunch break if I pretended to be her boyfriend."
"But why would she do that?! why would you do that?!"
"Okay, so first of all, your brother and I weren't on the best of terms. I WAS BORED!" He explained. "And secondly, I guess I wanted you to... catch us?" he explained, but made it sound more like a question. He scrunched his nape with the palm of his right hand and looked down in embarrassment.
"Why is that?! you literally ignored me. Even started to hate me!"
"I don't know, all right? I was stupid, and young, and... at least I got free sandwiches!"We arrived at the arcade part of the pier.
The purest gaming paradise.

The most colourful lights shone on us from everywhere. There were children on the dancing machine, jumping around on 9 white squares that flashed from time to time, teenage boys raced on the motorbike simulator, couples tried to pull cute stuffed animals out of the crane machine, and tourist families confusedly tried to figure out what such kind of games were for.

In the background, the sounds of the roller coaster rolling, the tower going up and down, and the shark ride spinning with passers-by sitting in huge shark heads. It looked crazy!
"Shark frenzy.." I whispered, reading the small sign in the middle of the attraction.
"Oh no, no no no no no!" Tom said, following my gaze. I turned to him, saw the panic in his eyes. Was he afraid of sharks? That's new to me.
"What? You don't like sharks?"
"who cares about the sharks? I just don't like the way it spins. Not after we've just eaten some chocolate cheesecake." I giggled, had already intertwined our hands and was dragging him behind me.
This was going to be fun!
