Heeseung was quickly walking through the halls to Jaeje and Hyejin's apartment, having taken a U-turn at Jaeje's sudden text message.
He didn't have full faith that she would agree, but to say he wasn't received would be an understatement. He knocked on the door and finally caught his breath as he waited for her to open the door.
"Ok I'm ready" Jaeje's voice sounded as the door opened revealing Jaeje in a gorgeous red dress.
"Wow... " Heeseung went speechless as he eyed her shamelessly up and down, having never seen her in an actual dress.
"Be careful your eyes might roll to the back of your head, let's just go before I regret everything and turn back around" Jaeje said as she closed the door behind her, locking it behind her.
"You were going to go alone? I thought you'd have a back up" Jaeje eyes him suspiciously as she finally turned to look at him properly.
"That would have been an idiot move don't you think?" His voice was still coming back to him as they walked out to his car.
"I'd expect nothing less from you" she replied making him laugh.
"Oh, and also... " he stilled himself as she also turned to face him.
"You look really pretty" he told her as he fixed a stray piece of hair behind her hair.
"You look really pretty too" she patted him on the shoulder and continued to the car.
"Tsk" he voiced and followed.
Jaeje realized she would have to come up with something to say to Hyejin once they arrived, the girl would not let it slide over after Jaeje made it pretty clear she wouldn't attend.
She turned to face Heeseung who was staring straight ahead at the road, having put on some music to keep the silence between the two of them comfortable.
She had expected him to start talking about how he knew she would come a and how obvious it was she would accept his proposal, but he had simply kept quiet, leaving her to her thoughts.
"You're starting" Heeseung said to her, finally breaking the silence that had surrounded them.
"Sorry" she apologized and turned away.
"I stated a fact, I didn't say I didn't like it" Heeseung pouted as she faced away from him.
"You're being quiet, I don't know if that should be comforting or not" She told him, turning back to face him.
"Do you want me to be quiet? " he asked, in all honesty as much as she appreciated him trying to give her space, a quiet Heeseung didn't sit right with her, she enjoyed his endless talks.
"No" she wouldn't tell him that she found his voice comforting, attentive.
"Then let's have fun tonight, I'll drop you back home since Hyejin went with Jay, maybe even take you out for a little...." He let his voice drift, wiggling his eyebrows in suggestion.
"I change my mind, go back to shutting up" she groaned and he laughed, missing her grouchy attitude.
"But what made you change your mind anyway? I'd like to take the credit, but I feel like it's something I have to share" he asked, the question being on his mind since her message.
"Well, did I ever tell you about my problem? " she asked.
"No, so let's hear it" if this was a moment for her to open up to Heeseung, he wasn't going to miss the chance.
"I have a problem with making my own choices" she confessed.
"I'm the kind of person to agree to eat what someone else wants because I can't speak up about what I want, I'm the kind of person to apologize even though it's not my fault, I'm the kind of person to suck up with something I don't like because I don't want to complain.
At one point I stopped knowing what I wanted because I was so used to others making the choices, I'd be asked what I wanted to wear, where I wanted to go, even what I felt like eating and I wouldn't know, it felt, still feels, like I don't have a right to my own life, like I'm selfish if I speak up about what I want, so I say no to things I want to say yes to, for example, going to this opening
But you said it yourself, no one is going to beat me up for wanting to do something I felt like or admitting stuff I want, so for tonight I will put aside my social anxiety and enjoy myself, and you better make it worth it" she let the words right out of her, the feeling of relief washing over her.
"Well if you truly can't be selfish around others, then be with me, I think I would be a hypocrite if I told you I wasn't the same" he told her and slotted his hand which wasn't controlling the steering wheel in hers, refusing to acknowledge the thump in his chest when she squeezed back.
Jaeje's ear drums felt like they were compressing, something she felt when she fell her heart beat rise, not in the good way most would expect. It was the kind she got when she felt fear, fear for what she couldn't decide, but she kept their hands together the rest of the ride, selfishly accepting whatever comfort Heeseung offered, fake or not.
They drove for some more time before finally reaching the venue, Jaeje reluctantly letting go his hand to step out, knowing it was time to answer her best friend and all her questions.
She stayed in her thoughts a bit longer till she heard her side of the door open, revealing a smiling Heeseung.
"Might as well try my luck tonight" he held out his hand to help her get out and she didn't have the energy to say anything and simply accepted.
"Now would you put away that frown and give me a smile, Jagiya? " he asked and she scoffed, but smiled nonetheless.
Jagiya: Dear
