I sighed looking at my phone pagkatapos patayin ang tawag mula kay mom, pagkatapos niyang sabihing nasa airport na siya.
"I'm at the airport, let's have dinner and bring your girl jake."
"Mom I already told you she's not ready!"
"Puputi ba muna ang buhok ko before meeting her, son? This is the first time you told me about a girl at hindi ko ito palalagpasin."she sounds like a evil mother in law but a simp one, I know it doesn't sounds like that but I know she's excited.
Mom keep on bugging me about eli, nakwento ko lang naman ng hindi sinasadya si eli last time she called at ngayong sinabi kong nililigawan ko na pinipilit niya akong dalhin sa bahay kapag nakauwi na siya for them to meet her.
Kakauwi lang ni dad last month and si mom naman ngayon ang susunduin ko, napabuntong hininga na lang ako at sumakay na sa sasakyan.
I thought I could spend more time with eli dahil sabi ni dad siya ang susundo kay mom but something came up, I sighed again.
I dialed eli's number while on my way to the airport.
"Hi what's up?" I frowned at the way she speaks to me but then smirk.
"Hi what's up?" I imitated the way she asked, hindi ko man nakikita alam kong nakasimangot na siya.
"Loko! Oh I was about to call you nga pala!" I smiled when she said that.
"What is it?"
"Are you free tomorrow? Gusto mo bang sumama sakin?" Tumaas ang kilay ko, It's rare for her to ask me out.
"Anytime eli, where?"
"Sa track---" agad ang sagot ko ng singhal ng marinig ang lugar, biglang pumasok sa isip ko ang imahe niyang naka sakay sa motor.
"Anong gagawin mo doon?"
"Relax manonood lang ako---"
"Eli?" Napabuntong hininga ako at sandaling nagisip bago sumagot "Fine! Manonood lang."
"Promise! So what are you doing?" Pag iiba niya ng usapan, I was just about to scold her but she changed the topic really fast, natawa na lang ako.
"Susunduin ko si mom ngayon."sabi ko nilingon ang airport na tanaw na.
"Nakarating na siya? Wow! I wonder what your mother looks like, mabait ba siya?" I sneered
"Yeah and she wants to see you." Hindi siya nagsasalita, tinigil ko ang sasakyan sa harap ng airport at nilibot ang tingin para hanapin si mom. "Still there, eli? You don't have to be nervous I told her you're not ready."
"Yeah, I'm just worried na baka... hindi niya ako magustuhan." Napangiti ako.
"Don't be."
She worry too much, I'm sure they'll like her, she's a good person, beautiful and smart, also weird.
I bit my lips to stop myself from smiling, bumaba ako ng sasakyan ng matanaw si mommy na naglalakad papalapit sakin.
"Hi son, I missed you." She looked at me from head to toe before hugging me, so I hugged her back.
"Mom!" I kissed her cheek before letting her go, I open the car door to let her in.
"So? Did you tell her about the dinner?" Natawa ako ng marinig ang mahinang singhap ni eli sa kabilang linya.
"You'll see her soon."sagot ko at muling natawa ng marinig ang pagbuntong hininga ni eli. Sigh of relief I think.
"I can't wait any longer, jake."
"Of course you can---"
"S-SA GRADUATION!" I heard eli's nervous voice on the other line, I looked at my mother irritatingly, before closing the door to talk to eli.
"It's fine don't force it, we can set a date. She can wait."
"P-pero jake---"
"Don't mind her words, I'll call you back later okay? Don't be pressure." I waited for her to end the call before entering the car.
I'm pissed.
Mom doesn't really express her emotion and has an snobbish face so when you talk to her she look uninterested or something and even her voice, sanay na ako but I'm sure eli's terrified.
Makulit talaga si mommy specially when it comes to me, I suddenly regretted telling her about eli.
Napabuntong hininga ako at hinarap siya.
"You were talking to her? You should've told me."
"Mom she's pressured you'll meet her soon okay? She's not ready yet." I keep on thinking about eli, ano kaya ang iniisip niya ngayon.
"It's not like I'm going to eat your beloved girl jake, I just want to see her kung sinabi mo sana kanina na kausap mo pala edi sana I said it nicely, don't blame me pinagdadamot mong masyado ang girlfriend mo." Hindi makapaniwalang napasinghap ako sa sinabi niya.
I like it when she said eli is my girlfriend but pinagdadamot?
"Mom you sound like a guy trying to steal my girlfriend. Sino ba ang manliligaw satin?" Natawa ako
"What? What do you think of me? tomboy? Don't misunderstand, seeing you being like this--uhh my heart!" My lips twitch as I start the car's engine. Here she goes again. "Youre making my heart broke, can't I see my future daugther in law? Am I disturbing you? Can't you see that I'm trying my best to be the best mother in law? I even brought her gifts, see those bags? It's all for her, do I have no rights to see my daugther in law? Why are you not serious with her?---"
"M-mom! Stop it! That's creepy!"
One of the reason why she's annoying, masyadong madrama, madalas siyang magoverthink at advance magisip, pero kahit ganto si mama i love her. She's just too much sometimes.
"Eli doesn't like material things and you don't have a gift for me?"
"I bought you one!"tinaas niya ang isang daliri at pinakita sakin, pasimple kong tinignan ang pinamili niya.
Hindi siya natapos sa kakadrama hanggang sa makauwi hinayaan ko na lang siya dahil wala naman ako magagawa kapag siya na ang nagsasalita, ang kulit talaga ang tigas pa ng ulo.
When I told her parehas sila ni eli na matigas ang ulo sobra pang natuwa, they finally have some common daw.
"Maybe I can secretly go to your school to take a look at her---"
"Mom! Stop! You can met her at our graduation day okay na? Please! Just please go now and rest!"sabi ko at mahina siyang tinulak pa akyat kung nasaan ang kwarto nila dad.
Hindi pa man sila nagkakakilala ni eli mukhang sasakit na ang ulo ko sa dalawa.
Stubborn babies.
Aish! I went to my room to call eli again.
Tsk! Sa sobrang kakulitan ni mommy hindi ko na siya na sabihin ng balita tungkol sa kapatid ko, it's fine thought atleast hindi na siya masyadong stress tungkol doon.
"Jake?" Napapikit ako ng marinig sa wakas ang boses ni eli.
"Hmm? Were you okay? Don't be pressured."
I keep telling her to rest assure that everything will be fine.
"I'm a bit nervous but it's fine."
Napabuntong hininga ako bago tumango.
"I'll be with you..."
