It was night time at last, the Dinosaurs were always glad when night came. It meant that their captors had gone home for the day and they could finally take a moment to breathe. This particular group of herbivores had been kept in this breeding pen for far too long, and they were beginning to reach their breaking point.
What seemed like a moment of calm, was interrupted as shadowy figures walked past the cages. The Dinosaurs were immediately on alert, bellowing to their sleeping friends to wake up, unless they wanted to be punished. These figures were black clothing, gloves and boots, and a Velociraptor mask that covered their faces.
Two split off from the main group and ran to the pens. They pulled the latch on the pens and pulled open the gate, allowing the caged Triceratops inside to dash from its pen and make a break for the open field. "Be free!" The masked man shouted.
One by one, more and more of these figures split off, opening different cages and setting each Dinosaur free. One figure, this one's mask sporting purple paint on its head, opened its cage and stood in front of the cage door. The Sinoceratops inside was immediately agitated upon seeing its escape blocked. "Woah, easy," the man said obliviously. "There's nothing to worry about. See? Nothing hurts, right?" The Sinoceratops bellowed at him and charged.
Before the man was flattened under the giant creature, he was charged out of the way by a smaller figure. The man's mask slipped off his head as he hit the ground, looking up and watching the fleeing Dinosaur in amazement. "Wow".
"You okay?" His masked saviour asked, offering him their hand.
He took it gratefully and was hauled to his feet. "That was one heck of a move you pulled," he said, lightly tapping their shoulder with his fist. The masked person took their Raptor head off, revealing Brooklynn underneath.
"Thanks, Earnest," Brooklynn said with as much of an honest smile as she could manage. Earnest was...a strange man to say the least. He could only be a few years older than her, had black hair with a strange man bun on his head. "Zappa and his team are opening the pens on the west side, we should make sure the perimeter is secure".
Earnest just laughed at her. "Don't worry about it. No one's out for miles, just chill. Just take a second to revel in what we're doing. We're heroes". He gazed proudly at his fellow members, celebrating as they watched the Dinosaurs run to their freedom.
"You know, before joining the DLN, I felt lost," Brooklynn said, staring at her mask. "But this group helped me feel like I'm a part of something".
"And that something is Dinosaur Liberation Now," Earnest said, turning to his group. "We strive...!"
"To keep Dinosaurs alive!" The rest of the group shouted back in unison. Earnest ran over to the rest of the group, shouting compliments left and right. Brooklynn took a step back from the scene, rushing away into a nearby jeep and climbing inside. Inside was her bag, and in that bag was her laptop, which she grabbed and set out in front of her. Just then, her phone began to buzz, she looked down at it and recognised the name. She eagerly took the call.
"Hey, kid," Ronnie's face appeared on the screen.
"Ronnie!" Brooklynn said with a smile. "I don't think I can take much more Earnest". Her smile turned strained and irritated just thinking about that insufferable man. How on earth was he the leader of the DLN?
"Honestly, I'm surprised you've managed to stay undercover this long," Ronnie said.
"I was so sure these breeding facilities were connected to the Broker or the Department of Prehistoric wildlife, but after helping the DLN with all these raids, I'm no closer to finding the Broker".
