A/N: I combined parts 1 and 2 for this.
The sun was well up in the sky by now. The group continued forward up the river, keeping their eyes open for any thing out of the ordinary. Overtime, they had gradually taken to following the trail of Dinosaurs that began appearing on the side of the river, in larger and larger groups and more and more frequently.
They were getting close now.
On and on they went, until finally, Max looked up above the treeline and pointed. "Up there. That's our spot". Everyone looked to where he was pointing, spotting a radio tower sticking above the trees nearby. "That has to be where all these Dinosaurs are coming from, which means Geba and Bumpy's egg are probably there, too".
They steered the boats onto the shore and continued the rest of the way on foot. The tower was stationed on top of a hill, which they took to climbing. Within moments, they had crested the top of the hill and looked over the other side.... and stared at an rusty, old chicken farm.
"Suppose we could cook a little something," said Kenji, not even laughing at his own joke. "Too bad they're not Dinosaurs, you know, the thing we came here for".
Max looked into the farm, deep in thought. His head perked up when a distant noise entered his ears. He stood up; and took a step forward. "You hear that?" He asked.
Yasmina leant toward him. "I don't hear anything," she whispered.
"Sounds...like a generator," Max said, turning to the group.
"I hear it, too," Ben said.
"So maybe this is more than an abandoned farm," Darius added.
Zayna pulled out her phone and sent a voicemail to her father, telling him that they found the place they were looking for. Darius and Max shared an uneasy glance before gathering the boys into a group huddle. "Anyone else think its irresponsible to take a certain fourteen year old down there into danger?" Darius asked.
"She was just on the river with us," Sammy argued.
"Because she was our guide," Max explained. "She knew the area. But from here on out, its uncharted territory for all of us. I think Zayna would be safer up here".
"We can't just leave her on her own," Ben said.
Kenji nodded, his eyes squinted in seriousness. "Alright, you all stay with Zayna". He turned to the chicken farm and eyed it as if it were a life long nemesis. "I'll go check things out".
Max glanced at Ben and Darius with a questioning look. Ben just shrugged. "We all go in?" Max checked.
The group collectively nodded. "Alright then, let's do it".
The chicken farm itself was enclosed by a brick wall, but it had fallen down in several sections, allowing the group to climb through with little trouble. Gradually, each of them began to fan out, searching different areas.
Max split off, walking on his own as he walked into a shelter, various chickens pecking the ground around him. He knelt down and picked one of the chickens up, holding it by its sides as he stared at the creature. The chicken stared back with a blank expression, its head tilting sideways as it seemed to wait for something to happen. "Any interesting secrets you can tell me about this place?" Max asked the chicken. "Any hidden areas, secret doors, anything?"
The chicken squawked in reply.
"Are you talking to that chicken?" The voice of Yasmina asked from behind him.
Max placed the chicken back on the floor at the speed of sound before turning around with his hands behind his back. "Hey, maybe it could talk back?" Max shrugged innocently.
