Warnings: Femme reader; pregnancy
You would have been friends with Data before you got pregnant. The child would, of course, not be his. He'd never ask you who the father was. He'd just ask once if the father was in your life and when you said no, that would be the end of it.
He would be very curious about human pregnancies and would ask you all sorts of questions about it (mainly how you were feeling). He would also ask Dr. Crusher about pregnancies, too, even though he would have the knowledge in his memory banks, he'd still ask all sorts of questions.
As such, he would spend a lot of time with you. He'd help you out best he could; bringing you food when you had cravings, get an anti-nauseant from sickbay for you, help you build furniture for the nursery, go to birthing classes with you. Without either of you realizing it, he would start to become a father-like figure for your unborn child. He'd grow an attachment to the fetus, and to you.
People on the ship would begin to notice. They'd whisper, comment, and gossip about you two. Some would speculate if you and Data were dating. You'd say no if anyone asked. At least, at first. But once you'd entered the third trimester and your due date was approaching fast, yours and Data's relationship would shift. He'd start to spend more and more time in your quarters, sometimes spending the night just in case you needed help during the night or morning.
Data would go to Worf and ask him what fatherhood was like. Worf would tell him all he knew and all he felt, but he'd warn Data that being a father is much more than just caring for the child. Then, Data would go to Beverly, seeking a more emotional and in-depth answer. Beverly would tell Data the truth, that being a parent is hard and exhausting (to which Data would point out he cannot become exhausted), but it is also the most rewarding thing in the whole world. She'd give him a stern, but loving, talking to, telling him that if he really did want to be in your child's life, he would also have to be in yours one way or another.
Data would spend the rest of the day doing research on parenthood and partnerships from various cultures. He'd show up at your quarters later that day, letting himself in, and he'd just start spouting facts about other cultures' partnering and parenting. You'd stop his rambling with a laugh. He would be confused by your laughter, but would keep talking: "I wish to be a part of your child's life. I cannot father children, but I find myself feeling as if the one you are carrying is... somehow mine. I cannot explain this feeling, as it makes no logical sense. But I do not wish to stop caring for you and the child. If you will let me, I will be the father to your child. And, perhaps your husband."
You'd practically choke when he said husband, but somehow it felt right. Your hormones would be all over the place, and you'd start to cry. Data would be very confused, and he'd go to you and take you in his arms (something Beverly told him to do once when he'd asked how to deal with mood swings). He would ask if he'd said something wrong, and you'd say, "No. No, Data, you said all the right things." "Then why are you crying?" he'd ask. "Because," you'd say with a laugh, "I'm very pregnant and very hormonal, and what you said made me really happy." He would look at you, head tilted slightly, and he'd ask, "Does that mean you will allow me to be your child's father?" You'd take his face in your hands, stare into his yellow eyes, and say yes. Yes to him being your child's father, and yes to him being your husband. Yes to it all, because somehow, in some way, over the last several months, the three of you had become a family.
