"This program is awesome!" you exclaimed, looking around at the field of snow adjacent to a frozen-over pond and a small forest. Nearby was a small cabin with a fire going in the fireplace; smoke rose from the chimney and dissipated into the grey-blue sky.

Tom grinned. "You like it? I thought it would be fun to have a wintery program since it would be winter back home in some places."

Harry shoved his hands into his pockets and huffed out a small cloud. "Couldn't you make it warm? The laws of nature don't have to be accurate in a holodeck, you know. Just because there's snow on the ground doesn't mean it has to be freezing."

You laughed. "Where's your sense of adventure? You can't properly enjoy the snow if it isn't cold!"

Tom clapped his friend on the shoulder. "Exactly. But if it'll make you feel better... Computer, raise temperature to zero degrees Celsius."

The computer acknowledged his request.

"Better?" Tom asked as the temperature raised a few degrees.

Harry sighed and nodded, though it was still cold in the room. "Thanks."

While the two of them had been focusing on that, you had been discreetly collecting snow in your hands. You smiled to yourself and threw the ball at Tom. It hit the side of his arm and he startled.

"Hey—what—Y/N! Did you just throw a snowball at me?" Tom asked, laughing as he looked to you.

You smiled sweetly at him. "Maybe."

Tom exchanged a look with Harry.

"I think they just started a war," Harry said.

"I think so," Tom agreed. He crouched down and gathered snow in his hands. "We can't let them beat us, Harry."

You laughed and made another snowball. "You can't team up! That'll be 2 against 1."

Harry smirked as he made a snowball of his own. "Seems like a fair fight to me."

You scoffed and chucked the snowball at him before dashing behind a skinny tree.

Tom laughed and threw the snowball your way. It hit the trunk of the tree, sending ice particles towards you.

Snowballs started flying from all directions. Tom and Harry split up so they could attack you from multiple directions. You weaved your way through the trees, throwing snowballs as you went. Laughter echoed through the holodeck, accompanied by the occasional oomf when someone got hit by a snowball.

After several minutes of running and throwing snowballs, you were cornered in front of a large boulder.

"Did you lead me here on purpose?" you asked Tom, who you were sure knew the layout of the holodeck program.

Tom laughed lightly. "No, just a happy accident." He held up the snowball.

You put your hands up. "I surrender."

Harry smirked and looked at Tom. "What do you think? Should we accept their surrender and call it truce?"

Tom looked from you to Harry, then back to you. You smiled hopefully at him. He lowered his snowball and sighed dramatically. "Fine. Truce it is."

You smiled wider. "Thank you."

Harry dropped the snow in his hand and brushed his gloves off. "Why don't we check out that cabin and warm up?"

You nodded. "Good idea."

Tom led the way back towards the cabin as the three of you chatted idly. The program was a nice distraction, and it certainly improved all of your moods. You for one hadn't had so much fun in the snow in ages. Having a snowball fight with your two best friends reminded you of a simpler time and brought you more joy than you'd felt in a while, and for that you were eternally grateful.
