A/N: It isn't specified in this which Spock it is, so you can read it as being any version from any series! Also thank you all for being patient with me. I know my updating has been slower lately. This semester has been very busy for me so I don't have a whole lot of free time to write.
"Did you enjoy yourself this evening?" Spock asked you as the two of you walked through the corridors of Enterprise, making your way to your quarters.
It was difficult at times for the two of you to have time off together. Try as you might, you only managed to have a date once or twice a week. That is if you didn't count quickly eating breakfast or lunch together before work, which neither of you counted. You loved what little time you had with Spock, and you made sure to savour every moment of it. Your dates weren't overly fancy or romantic. Usually they were just dinner in either of your quarters, sometimes in the messhall. The two of you appreciated any alone time you had with one another, so most of your dates consisted of the two of you just chatting and enjoying each other's company.
You smiled at him. "Of course. I always enjoy myself when I spend time with you."
"I feel the same about you," he replied. "Though I would have preferred it if Doctor McCoy had not interrupted our dessert."
You laughed and nodded. "Yeah, well, Bones just likes to bug us. It's harmless fun."
Spock was quiet a moment, then said, "I do not understand how he finds it fun to interrupt our date. This is the second time this month that he has done this."
You looped your arm through his and leaned your head against his shoulder. "Sometimes friends like to tease each other and playfully bug each other. It just shows that behind his prickly exterior, he truly does care for us and think we're a good couple."
"I do not understand your logic," Spock said as you two rounded a corner. "You say Doctor McCoy approves of our relationship and yet he continuously interferes with our dates and alone time together."
You smiled. "Think about it: if he didn't approve or if he didn't like us being together, he wouldn't want to have anything to do with us. He'd ignore us when we're together and he certainly wouldn't waste his time bothering us. The fact that he spends some of his free time seeing us, even if it is him purposefully interrupting us, tells me that he cares."
"Hm." Spock looked at you with admiration. He loved how your brain worked and he always enjoyed hearing your thoughts. "Your reasoning is... confusing. But it sounds like a likely conclusion."
You arrived at your quarters and let go of him. "I'd invite you in, but I have an early morning tomorrow."
"As do I," Spock replied. "I shall see you tomorrow for lunch, assuming we are still eating together."
"Unless I get caught up with work, in which case you'll have to come and find me and force me to eat," you teased.
Spock's eyebrow raised in amusement. "I will remember that."
"Well," you said, smiling at him softly. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Y/N." Spock gently took your wrist and pulled you closer to him.
Your eyes widened with confusion.
He leaned his head towards yours, giving you a brief yet sweet kiss on the lips. When he pulled away, he frowned. "Did you not wish to receive a kiss?" he asked upon seeing your confused expression
"No, it's not that," you said, brow furrowed. "It's just, to say that was unexpected is an understatement."
"Did we not have an enjoyable date?" he asked.
"Well, yeah."
"And is it not a human tradition to end a good date with a kiss?"
"Sometimes, but since when do you follow human traditions?" you asked.
"The Captain insisted on giving me advice," Spock told you. "Though I did not ask for it, some of what he said was helpful."
You laughed and took Spock's hand gently. "I just didn't think you were someone who liked showing affection in public."
"Normally I am not," he agreed. "But tonight I felt comfortable showing my affection for you. I hope that was all right."
You grinned. "It was more than all right, Spock. I was just surprised, that's all."
"Next time I will give you warning," he said, a faint smile on his lips.
You knew he was joking, but you laughed and said, "Sounds good to me."
He dipped his head and met your eyes, the corners squinting with a smile. "Goodnight, Y/N. I will see you tomorrow."
