"Reed to Enterprise, can you hear me?" Malcolm said for what felt like the hundredth time. While on a mission to survey an uninhabited planet and collect samples of rocks and plants, an ion storm had hit the shuttle and caused it to crash. The engines were shot, but luckily the life support and the communications array were still functioning. Enterprise was on a diplomatic mission at a planet not far from where you and Malcom were. However, they were far enough that the distress signal wouldn't reach them for at least a day.

"Mal, give it a rest," you said gently. "They won't get our message for a while, and they're not coming back this way for two days. We might as well try to make the best of it."

Malcolm sighed and looked at you. "How can we make the best of it? We crash landed in the one snowy area of the entire planet."

You laughed. "Yeah, but look how pretty it is," you said as you gestured outside the window.

"I'm just glad life support is still operational," he said, ignoring your comment. "Otherwise we'd be freezing."

You grinned. "I'm sure we could think of a way to keep warm."

Despite the circumstances, Malcolm chuckled softly. "Is that all you think about?"

You laughed with him. "No."

"We should try to get the engines operational," he said after a few moments.

You rolled your eyes. "I don't think we can fix them, Mal."

"But we could at least try," he insisted.

You shrugged. "All right, well we'll have to go outside to do that."

Malcolm nodded and went to the back of the shuttle. He opened a compartment and pulled out two winter jackets and two pairs of gloves. You took yours from him and pulled them on. Malcolm did the same, then he grabbed a kit of engineering tools.

Outside, there was around half a foot of snow on the ground. Luckily, it wasn't currently snowing, nor was it windy. Malcolm went to one of the engines and started to take scans.

After scanning and attempting to fix the engines for a while, Malcolm sighed heavily.

"You're right. They're busted," he said, shoving the tools back into the kit.

You nodded slightly and put your hand onto his bicep. "At least we're stuck here together."

A faint smile pulled at his lips. "Well, we better go back into the shuttle."

"No, let's stay out here and enjoy the snow," you said excitedly.

Malcolm raised his eyebrows. "How?"

"Well..." You crouched down and started to collect snow in your hands.

Malcolm watched you curiously, not quite sure what you were doing.

Then you stood and tossed the snowball at his chest.

He let out a surprised laugh. "A snowball fight? Really?"

You grinned. "Why not?"

Malcolm shook his head. "Your inner child will never cease to amaze me," he said with admiration.

"Well then let me bring out your inner child," you said.

Malcolm smiled. He crouched down and started to make a snowball.

You giggled and ran several paces away. A snowball came flying your way and hit you in the shoulder. You laughed. "Good shot."

Malcolm scoffed playfully. "Well I am an armory officer."

You grinned and tossed a snowball at him; it landed just at his feet.

Snowballs flew back and forth between the two of you, laughter filled the air, and for a short period of time, you both forgot that you were temporarily stranded on a planet.

You started to grow tired, and you held your hands up in surrender. "I give up."

Malcolm laughed. "So soon?"

You smiled and slowly walked over to him, hands still raised. "I don't want to expend all of my energy throwing snowballs at you."

"Fair point," he said, dropping the snow that was in his hand. When you were close enough, he put his hands on your hips and pulled you close to him. "Thank you," he murmured.

You nodded. "I'm glad you had fun."

"You always know how to make me relax," he admitted. "And that's one of the things I love about you."

You kissed his lips softly. "I love you."

"I love you as well." He kissed the tip of your nose, which was growing cold. "We should go inside before you get hypothermia."

You smiled. "I don't think it's that cold, but you're right: we should go inside."

Malcolm wrapped his arm around your waist. "I'll help warm you up."

You laughed. "Is that all you think about?" you teased, using his exact phrasing.

He laughed with you. He said nothing and led you into the shuttle.
