Previous Day, Victor

"Why do you want to take him with you?" Rody asked while they were sitting at the breakfast table. Robin was sleeping, Victor had worn him out last night. He didn't want to think about it. He took care of himself this morning. Twice. Yet the memory had a fresh wave of blood rushing south. He wanted to go back to Robin, slip behind him into his bed, and finish what he started but his mate needed rest. He needed to heal.

"Robin has shown a keen interest in Political matters. His father never gave him the freedom to participate in important political discussions. As his mate and the future King of Dhasur, I want him to get involved in all my important discussions. I want him to feel important because he is important."

"Hmm..I see," Rody said, not looking very happy about the prospect.

"You don't seem to agree."

"I mean you two are not married yet. What if he decides to go back and spill all the inside information."

"I trust him," Victor said, offended that his brother would doubt his mate.

"I think it's genius," Arthur said, sliding onto the chair next to Victor, sipping coffee.

"Really?" Rody asked. "I thought you hated him."

"I don't hate him," Arthur said, side-eyeing Victor. "I can't get to like him. He is the killer's son after all. But I think Victor is doing the right thing by taking him to the meeting."

"And why is that?" Victor asked, cocking his head to the side to look at his brother.

"Think about it. He is King Marcella's son. Harold Marcella didn't tell anyone about this missing Omega son. We would know if he did. And I have a feeling he would never let that information out. His ego is much bigger than his love for his children. Since Marcella's soldiers are heavily active in Tombak, Robin could sway them into helping us. Swaying Marcella's important military officials is part of our plan anyway. He could make it so much easier for us. Those soldiers are more likely to listen to their own kin. And Robin has that thing going on...that superiority thing. His father's soldiers are bound to hang on to every word he will say."

"I would not get him involved in my war."

"But you just now said he is your mate so is it not his responsibility to be by your side?"

"No. No. I can't put that pressure on him." Victor stood from his chair, running a finger through his hair. He hated that Arthur put the seed in his mind.

Maybe he was wrong to bring Robin to his family. Rody and Arthur couldn't accept him as their own.

After Kyle took Robin out for shopping Victor tried to read to relax his mind but his mind kept spiraling out of control. There were so many things to consider now. If Victor got killed during the war it would mean Robin would be left alone, heartbroken, and vulnerable. The thought of leaving Robin behind with his brothers or Robin's own father haunted him.

He wanted Robin to have freedom but where would be freedom if his country was under King Marcella's rule?

He thought about signing Victor up in the Soul Match Agency to give him a chance at finding another mate. As much as it pained Victor to think of him with someone else, he couldn't let Robin waste his time with Victor only to be heartbroken much like Kyle. Victor wouldn't be his brother. He wouldn't leave his mate to piece together his life from the start after he was gone.

"Uncle Victor let's play catch," Nina shouted from the poolside, distracting him from his intrusive thoughts.

"Don't go near the pool, mama," Victor yelled before running behind him to the pool area.

Kyle said they wouldn't take much time but he knew Kyle. He expected them to take the whole morning. It was good Kyle took Robin out. Victor should have done that. It was a nice break from staying in this house all day long.

Victor paused when his eyes fell on Robin standing at the house entrance to the poolside. His soft eyes lingered on Victor, a small smile playing on his lips. Victor's heart twisted at the sight of the love of his life. How could he ever part ways with him? The thought brought unimaginable pain, and not just because they were mates.

Nina jumped beside him asking Robin to come join them.

"You can go watch TV in your room. I won't tell your mom," Victor whispered to Nina to which she jumped in happiness and swooshed past Robin to go to her room.

"What did you say to her?" Robin asked, mirth playing behind his eyes.

"I said she could watch TV. How was your shopping?" Victor asked, trying to get dark thoughts out of his mind.

"Great. You want to see what I got?" Robin said, biting his lips suggestively.

Victor gulped. God, how he wanted to have him in his arms again. "Yeah, show me."

"Follow me," Robin said, strutting towards the stairs. Victor followed like a love-starved puppy.

Victor was quite surprised when Robin pushed him against the closed door and kissed him right on his mouth. He loved this demanding side of his mate. But he was too wound up to let him lead. He placed his palm on Robin's waist and moved him so he was the one against the door.

Victor wanted to devour him and remember him for eternity if he didn't make it out of the war. His brother's words kept playing in his mind. Like a damning broken loop.

"Victor...Victor," Robin moaned, gripping his hair and grinding his body to Victor. Victor couldn't do it, not with the things clouding his mind. He pushed Robin away.

"I need to talk to you about something," Victor said.

"What is it?"

There was so much he wanted to say. A small, niggling part of him wanted him to discuss what Arthur said this morning. The question was on the tip of his tongue. 'Would you be willing to help me in the war against your father?'

But how could he ask for his help when there was a high chance he would die fighting this war? He couldn't ask him to go against his father. That would leave him vulnerable to his father's wrath.

He didn't plan on confessing his love to Robin right then, quite the opposite actually, he wanted to convince him to find his happiness even if Victor wasn't there but like most things with Robin things went off the track.

Victor considered himself a far-sighted, calculative leader. He knew just the right steps to ensure his upper hand in tough situations but the equation was skewed when his mate was concerned. Robin had a way of messing with his head. Words came unfiltered when he spoke to Robin.

There were so many things he had hidden from Robin because he didn't know how to justify his selfish acts. Any other person and Victor would have had them eating out of his palm but Robin...Robin could see right through him. Robin made Victor vulnerable, scared even. Victor was always walking on eggshells around his mate, trying not to do something to set him off, to upset him. Victor couldn't stand the thought of his mate being angry with him.

There was so much more he wanted to say to Robin. Tell him about his premeditated escape plan. About all the things he had done while being enslaved in his father's palace. The support he had gathered, the people he had influenced to do his bidding. As a diplomatic strategist, he had gotten his way with a lot of things but he didn't know if Robin would appreciate his cunningness. Robin was too ethical and virtuous to see Victor's reason for doing things he had done. Before Victor could say anything else Caroline called them for lunch. He was relieved as if staying a few more seconds with Robin would have made him spill everything. Made him bare his heart open and made Robin hate him forever.
