Robin and Victor were back at the house. Rody and Caroline had prepared a big meal to celebrate Robin's success. Robin was still not sure how he pulled it off. He was glad he had them to celebrate his accomplishment. A memory of his own family sent a pang of sadness through his heart.

Everyone was happy for him although something was off with Victor. He was weirdly quiet, sitting far from Robin. He hadn't been able to keep his hands to himself for the past four days ever since Robin's heat. Today after coming back from the Tombark he hadn't made any efforts to come near Robin. Not even a handhold. Robin was worried he had done something wrong. He kept replaying the whole day in his head to determine what he could have said to upset Victor but he couldn't come up with anything. If his speech had upset Victor then he wouldn't have been so happy after the speech. Something went wrong on their flight back to Manu.

Rody was talking to Robin, sitting by him on the living room sofa, telling him about the lores of Joolandia when Victor growled at Rody in a warning. Rody's head snapped at his brother and he moved away from Robin to sit at a distance. Robin frowned at the weird exchange. Victor was never bothered by his middle brother. Arthur was a different matter but Rody...he never had issues with Rody talking to him.

"It's late, you must be tired," Victor said to Robin. Robin realized it was the first thing he had said something to him in the last ten or so hours.

"I was talking to your brother," Robin snapped.

"You can talk tomorrow," Victor snapped back.

"What's wrong? Why are you acting like a bitch?" Robin asked.

Victor gritted his teeth before turning around and walking away without arguing with Robin.

"Did I do something to piss him off?" Robin asked, turning to Rody. Rody shrugged.

Robin followed Victor to the backyard and saw him sitting by the pool. He walked to him and sat beside him. "Everything okay with you?" Robin asked.

Victor shook his head like a small child.

"What happened?"

Victor looked at him with a mixture of pain and defeat. "I think I am going into a rut."

"Oh," Robin's mouth formed an O. A blush formed at the thought of spending time with him in his rut.

"I remember you said you are good at handling your rut," Robin asked meekly.

"I was when I didn't meet you. I am not so sure anymore. It feels intense even now, when I am not in a full rut," Victor said, not looking too happy about it.

"So what's the problem? I am here to take care of you," Robin said, feeling his heart flutter at the prospect.

Victor looked more pained. "Robin, you know the problem. I can't get you pregnant right now."

Realization set in Robin. "I will take birth control."

"It takes a week to become effective. And it's not one hundred percent effective."

"It won't be the end of the world if I get pregnant. I think I want to have a baby. Seeing Nina..,"

"I can't spend my rut with you, Robin," Victor said, cutting Robin off. "This is not the right time to bring another life into the world."

"You think I can't take care of a baby if something happens to you?" Robin asked, feeling offended.

"You have no idea what it takes to be a single parent. We have already had this conversation, why are you bringing it up?"

"No, we haven't had this conversation. You want me to find someone else in case of death, that's what you implied in our previous conversation. You think someone else would be man enough to handle my temperament? You think I would be accepting enough to let someone else come into my life? You are the only one, Victor. And if something happens to you, I would be your widow. I would be witness to the man who loved his family, who loved his country, and who would have been a great father."
