A/N: I keep having this super anxiety inducing nightmare about people I love dying because of me and I needed to vent, so I wrote this

Dabi hadn't gotten much sleep in the last two nights. He didn't sleep much or too well in the first place, but it had gotten worse since you had started having some bad nightmares. You would wake up in a cold sweat breathing heavily and pretty much having a panic attack. Dabi didn't know what you had been dreaming about that had caused you such anguish.

You were dreaming. It didn't start out as anything bad, but it soon turned to extremely unpleasant. In the dream you were just walking in a park with Dabi, holding his hand. Then the scene shifted, it started glitching and flashing to you, holding his bloody and battered body in your arms until the image became clear, or as clear as dreams get. Then you woke up, having a panic attack. For a second you didn't know where you were, and when you felt the bed next to you, no one was there.

"Dabi" you whispered, no answer. "Dabi" you said louder, crying out for him.

He appeared from the bathroom, and marched over to you, putting his right hand on your shoulder and his left under your chin to make you look at him.

"I'm here, stop freaking out"

You felt yourself calming down as soon as you felt him touch you and you heard his voice.

"You're-you're okay?" you stammered, putting your shaking hands on his cheeks.

"Why the hell wouldn't I be?" Dabi asked, in his usual annoyed tone.

"I-I was holding you and you were-were all bloody and-and..." you started sobbing.

"I'm here, I'm fine. No blood, see" he said, gesturing to himself.

You were crying in Dabi's arms, with him telling you it was okay and that it was just a bad dream. You were holding on to him for dear life and he just held you to his chest.

"You're okay, but you really need to breathe you dumbass, you're gonna pass out otherwise" Dabi said, starting to get worried about how shallow your breathing sounded.

You could hear Dabi's heartbeat and feel his chest rising and falling with his breathing and it helped you calm down, slowly but still.

"You starting to feel better sweetness?" he asked, placing a kiss on your forehead.

"Ye-yeah" you muttered. "Sorry about that, I kinda freaked out didn't I?"

"What the hell got you into such a panic anyway?"

"I had a nightmare about you dying and it being my fault" you sighed, relaxing against his chest, even though your breathing was still a bit unsteady.

"Sweetness, I can assure you that when I die, it will not have anything to do with something you did"

"So are you planning on dying in the near future then?" you asked.

You got this feeling of dread in the pit of your stomach before he even answered. You knew you weren't going to like what he was about to say.

"Hell, I'm not even supposed to be alive right now, so who knows, I might kick the bucket any day now" he joked somberly.

You knew it wasn't really a joke, even though he meant it as one.

"That's not even remotely funny" you said and smacked his chest, leaving your hand to rest above his heart.

You were absolutely terrified of losing him, Dabi knew that. He had come to terms with the fact that he could die at any time a long time ago, it didn't really even bother him anymore. What did bother him however, was you, he didn't want to leave you alone. He was sure you would do something stupid if he died and he didn't want that. He didn't want you to be in pain.

"I don't ever want to lose you" you said quietly and leaned your head against his chest again to listen to his heartbeat.

Dabi didn't say anything. For a long time he had felt he would sacrifice anything and anyone to get his revenge on his father. If someone were to ask him what he was willing to do now, his answer might have been different, not by much, but you wouldn't be included in the "anyone" anymore.

"I'm not going anywhere sweetness"

Dabi just embraced you tightly and placed another kiss on your forehead. He wasn't going anywhere, as long as it was up to him at least.
