A/N: Someone here wanted another part to my "Home in his heart" one-shot so here I go with my bullshit again. I went in a bit of a different direction with this, but I hope you still enjoy
Warnings: Violence, burning people to death
When you woke up the next morning, he was gone. You sat up and stretched your arms above your head. You turned to look where Dabi had been sleeping and placed your hand on the pillow where his head had been resting.
"Still warm" you muttered with a small smile.
He must have left only moments before you woke up. You'd assumed he had left the apartment altogether, but there was some noise coming from the kitchen, so you seemed to have been wrong in that assumption.
You pulled on some pants and went to check out what he was doing in the kitchen.
You peeked into the kitchen, thinking you would try to spook him, but it wasn't Dabi who was standing there.
You didn't recognize who it was, so you tiptoed back to the bedroom and grabbed your trusty baseball bat. You didn't want to resort to violence so you decided to give the intruder a choice. Either get the hell out or get the shit beat out of them.
You got to the doorway to the kitchen, and the person was still standing with their back to you. You tapped them on the shoulder with the bat before raising it, ready to hit them if need be.
The person, who turned out to be a woman, turned around. She had one of your coffee cups in her hands and she took a sip from it, before setting it down on the counter.
"You must be Dabi's newest plaything" she said, stepping closer, making you take a step back.
"I don't know who the fuck you are, but get the hell out of my apartment before I beat the shit out of you" you growled.
"Oh don't be like that, I just came to talk" she said, and in one swift movement grabbed the end of your bat, twisting it downwards until you had to let go.
"I don't really like to talk to people who break into my home" you said, crossing your arms on your chest, trying to not show fear.
You were getting a really dangerous vibe from this lady, and now that she'd taken away your bat, you didn't really have anything to defend yourself with. The knife block was behind her on the counter so you couldn't get to that either.
"Well you don't really have to talk. You just need to listen and do as I say" she smirked.
You rolled your eyes but nodded for her to go on anyway. You got the feeling you shouldn't antagonize her too much, but you couldn't help but be annoyed by the situation.
"It's simple really. I want you to break up with Dabi and never see him again" she smiled with fake glee, but her eyes were cold.
"And why would I do that?" you scoffed.
"Because I'll kill you if you don't"
No one breaks into someone's house with good intentions, so you had had an incredibly bad feeling about this since the situation started. You were quite sure no matter what you told her, you would end up dead, so you decided you would just tell her the truth.
"Not gonna happen. Besides I think I wouldn't have much say in that anyway, since Dabi would just keep appearing here anyway" you said.
"Well, it can't be helped then, you need to die" the woman smiled, her gleeful expression starting to change into a meaner one.
"Just answer me this: Why do you care about who he's seeing?" you asked, taking a step back again, preparing to make a run for the front door.
"I'm his one true love, he just hasn't realized that yet, but he will"
"Oh so you're nuts, got it" you scoffed, before trying to make a move for the door.
The woman managed to grab your arm however, and pulled you back so you fell on your ass.
She put her foot on your throat, constricting your breathing. You were trying to push it off, but she was putting a lot of weight on your throat, so you couldn't breathe. You felt like she was going to crush your trachea right then and there. You could feel yourself getting weaker and weaker as you were losing consciousness.
You couldn't help but think you'd let Dabi down. He was going to be alone again. The last thing you felt before passing out, was an intense wave of heat.
When you were passing out, you were sure you weren't going to wake up again. You were sure Dabi would hate you for leaving him like this, for dying before him.
Dabi had gone out for a cigarette, and to walk around the block so he had no idea what was going on. When he returned he found a familiar person, basically standing on your throat and he just snapped. He didn't think when he shot out the fire towards the bitch who had dared to hurt you.
After he had dealt with the woman, he carried you to the bed and laid you down. He was terrified of checking your pulse, but when he did, to his relief he found that your heart was still beating. Your breathing was raspy, but it didn't sound like there was anything seriously wrong. He just sat down on the foot end of the bed and hung his head, pinching the bridge of his nose with two fingers.
"Dammit" he growled.
A sound caught his attention. The bitch he'd thought he'd taken care of, was groaning in pain on the kitchen floor. Dabi felt another spark of rage flare up in his chest.
He walked up to the scorched, writhing mess of a body that was trying to crawl away from him. He stood there for a moment, before stomping on her face.
"You fucking bitch! How fucking dare you?!"
"I did it for us. I love you" what was left of the woman answered raspily.
Dabi leaned down and whispered to what used to be her ear: "Go to hell" before grabbing her head with one hand and letting his flames roar until she stopped screaming.
Dabi then returned to sit by your side until you woke up. It took almost an hour before your eyes started to flutter open.
You raised your hand to your throat and looked around. There was a burnt smell in the air and Dabi was sitting at the end of the bed.
"Dabi?" you croaked.
"Better you don't talk, that bitch got you pretty good" Dabi said, looking down at his hands.
You could feel your eyes starting to sting with tears. By god you had been terrified, you'd been so sure you were going to die. You sat up and placed your feet on the floor, squeezing the edge of the mattress with both hands.
"You're gonna be fine, doll. She won't hurt you again" Dabi assured, putting his hand on your thigh.
"I assume she's the source of the burnt smell?" you asked with a hoarse voice.
"Yeah" he sighed.
"So I have a burnt corpse in my kitchen, nice" you tried to joke, but you couldn't hold back the tears anymore.
You leaned your head against his shoulder and just started sobbing. You had been so scared, but you were relieved he was there. You felt safe with him there.
Dabi wrapped his arm around you and rubbed your shoulder. He didn't have anything to say. In the moments he thought you were dead, he had been terrified. He had felt that familiar feeling of loneliness just rush back when he thought he'd lost you. For just a second he'd been so angry at you. How could you let someone take you away from him? You were his, you weren't allowed to just leave like that. Then he had checked your pulse and all that hate was directed at the bitch that had dared to hurt you, as it should've been to begin with.
Dabi wasn't used to feeling like this. Feeling like he wanted to protect someone, but here you were. Someone he wanted to protect. Someone he loved. In his own way, but loved nevertheless.
