I can barely contain myself. Who would've thought? "Liu!" my voice peaked up to a squeak excitedly, watching as the tall male entered the room before shutting the door behind him. One thing that caught my eye is the fact that he was wearing a backpack. Never seen him own or wear one. "I thought I was late." Liu chuckled to himself as he unstrapped the backpack from his shoulders. He sat down on the chair beside my bed, placing the backpack on his lap. "I brought something for you." Liu smiles, unzipping the top of his bag. I curiously waited for him to pull out whatever he had for me. He didn't even have to dig in, I noticed a fuzzy head suddenly pop up from inside of the bag. I had to refrain myself from letting out a gasp of surprise. "I know they don't allow animals in here, but I don't have any place to leave him at. So, I had no other choice." Liu explains as the furry creature jumped out of the bag and onto my bed. Whiskers purrs, rubbing his soft body onto mine before rolling over onto its side. I just can't wipe the smile off my face. Who could've imagined he was the one to suddenly pop out of nowhere? "So, uh... I heard what happened." Just as I began giving my affection to Whiskers, I hear Liu speak up. I pause for a few seconds, pursing my lips as brush my hand along Whiskers body. "You shouldn't have gone to the forest." I feel like he's scolding me, as if I were a child. But I know he's right. Masky made multiple attempts to stop me, but I still had to be such a stubborn girl and look where I ended up. "I know. Sorry if I worried you." I frown. Liu huffs, slumping back in his seat. He crosses his arms over his chest and averts his gaze from mine. After a few seconds of silence, I hear him question, "How are you feeling now?" Well, not better than before but also not worse. I shrug my shoulders. "Fine, I guess." I respond shortly. Liu hums in reply. He still looks angry with the fact that I went into the forest on my own. Maybe I could brighten up the mood a bit. Whiskers curled up in my lap and closed his eyes while I thought of something to say.
"Aw, were you really worried about me? How cute!" A teasing grin spreads across my lips. Liu's eyes snap back to meet mine as his cheeks gain a noticeable red tint. "W-Well, of course! I mean, how could I n-not?! You're hurt and-!" Just before he could continue his little ramble, I stretch out my arm to him, holding up my hand. "I'm just teasing." I let out a short laugh, only to make Liu release a breath and smile a bit. He subconsciously grabs my hand, lightly rubbing his thumb over my knuckles. "Figures." He chuckles a bit. He stares down at my hand for a few seconds before quickly letting go, retracting his hand back to himself. Dazed by his unusual reaction out of nowhere, I slightly furrow my brows, silently questioning him. I see him shortly swallow before standing up nervously, swinging his empty backpack over his shoulder. "S-Sorry," he stammers. He shoots a short glance at the clock hanging on the wall before looking back to me. "I should be going. Visiting time is almost over." I could tell he was clearly bothered by something. But what? Did I do something wrong? Whiskers was already soundlessly asleep on my lap, and I wasn't planning on waking him up. "Wait, I could ask my nurse if you can stay for the night!" I offer, to which he quickly rejects, "No, that's-"
"Hey, (Y/n), visiting time is-!" Samantha barges in and freezes almost immediately upon seeing a cat on my lap. Oh boy. Hope I wouldn't get into any trouble. I expected her to scold me, but she surprisingly did the contrary. "Ooh, what a cute little baby!" She beams, rushing over to my bed and stroke the sleeping cat, who perks up from the sudden contact of a human hand. Whiskers pulls his head back from Samantha's hand before curiously sniffing it. After he made sure she was no threat, he joyfully headbutted her hand as a demand for more petting. I was a bit dumbfounded by her reaction, and so was Liu. "Haha, uh... no, he belongs to my friend..." I sheepishly smile as Sam happily gives her affection to Whiskers. Samantha smiles, tilting her head up to look at Liu. "What's its name?" She questions cheerfully. Liu shortly laughs, still flabbergasted at her excited reaction. "Whiskers." He responds. "Hi, Whiskers!" Samantha speaks in a lighthearted, soft tone, similar to the one people use to talk to babies. Whiskers purrs audibly, continuing to push his head further into Sam's hand. "Aw, you're such a cutie!" She giggles, giving Whiskers' head one last scratch before straightening herself up. I clear my throat. Maybe this would be a good time to ask. "Hey, uh, is my friend allowed to stay the night?" I ask. Sam smiles. "Well, why not! But just in case another worker comes by, be sure to hide Whiskers. I wouldn't want to get in trouble." She states. I reply with a nod and a smile of gratitude as Samantha walks past Liu.
