I slowly come into my consciousness, slowly fluttering my eyes open. My apartment seemed more lighter than usual, considering the fact that It's normally dark from being so early in the morning. I roll over in by bed, snatching my phone off the nightstand and checking the time. Ah, it's just 10 AM. ...10 AM?! My eyes shoot open as I scramble off my bed, almost losing balance when one of my feet gets caught on the covers on by bed. Shit, shit, shit! I was supposed to be at work two hours ago! I can't believe I forgot to put an alarm. God, the manager is going to kill me. I don't even bother starting the day off with breakfast and head straight to my closet. Get dressed quickly and just run to work! Maybe they'll forgive me once they see I made a struggle to actually get there.

I breathlessly push the doors to the building open, rushing inside in a panting mess. The receptionist jumped from my sudden entrance as I came to a halt in front of her, hunching down and supporting myself by placing my arms on my knees. I held up a hand, motioning to the receptionist to wait a few seconds so I could catch my breath. After a few seconds of heavy breathing and coughs, I finally readjusted my posture. Slamming my hands onto the counter of the receptionist, I quickly blurt out, "I'm sorry for being late, I overslept and I really didn't mean to, I'm sorry!" The receptionist gave me a blank stare for a couple of seconds before giggling a bit. "Oh, dear. Don't worry, It's actually a good thing that you're late." She hummed lightly. "Wh-... Really?" I asked with genuine confusion. She let out another short laugh and nodded. "Yes. We just hired someone new and he came in a couple of minutes before you. I thought maybe you'd like to show him around?" She asked with a smile. Well, if it'd get me away from trouble, then yeah. "Y-Yeah, I can do that." I clear my throat, straightening myself up. "Great!" She exclaimed before picking up her telephone system, holding the phone up to her ear. "Derek? Please head to the main lobby, thank you." She spoke into the phone before placing it back down without a word. After that, she looked up at me, "He'll be here in a few moments." She spoke. As I waited, I lightly tapped my fingers on the counter. One minute passed. Two. Three. And soon enough five minutes passed. It took this 'Derek' guy 5 minutes to get to the damn lobby. And once he actually got here, he didn't seem apologetic nor anything. He just casually walked in with his hands down his pockets, a bored expression on his face. I could immediately tell what kind of person he was. And it's not the type of person I like to deal with. The receptionist stood up from her chair and smiled at Derek.

"Good that you're here! Derek, meet (Y/n). She will show you around, today. (Y/n) meet Derek." She eyed Derek and I, as if waiting for us two to introduce ourselves. Derek barely kept his gaze on my face for a second. I could see his eyes moving up along my body and back down before grinning slyly. He stuck a lazy hand out, managing to keep eye contact for a few seconds with me. "Hey." He greeted me. I can't really blame him for the way he's acting since, well, he seems like just a kid. Maybe around 18 years old, or so? But then again, he's officially an adult and he should act like one. I really didn't want to shake hands with this guy, but I had to be polite if I wanted the receptionist to cover up my lateness. I forced a smile upon my face and shook this kid's hand firmly, like a proper worker had to do. "Pleasure." I spoke through clenched teeth as he held onto my hand a bit longer than I would've wanted to before letting go. The room filled with uncomfortable silence before the receptionist cleared her throat. "Well, (Y/n)! Why won't you start by showing him the first floor?" She asked. She clearly seemed uncomfortable as well but tried her best to stay as optimistic as possible. "Yeah, uh... Please, follow me, Derek..." I swallowed as I made my way towards the elevator, giving him a hand motion to follow me. With that stupid smirk of his, Derek followed behind me, just a few feet away instead of walking next to me. Boy, as if I didn't know the reason to why he was walking behind me. I try my best to not seem uncomfortable, but my tense body just probably gave it away. I stepped into the elevator, immediately pressing my back against the wall inside the small space as Derek stepped in. Once he gets inside, I press the button to the top floor, the 8th one. I thought it'd be better to start from all the way up, so we wouldn't have to go up and back down twice. The elevator doors close, leaving me in an enclosed space with a kid that has no actual manners. Why'd they hire him? Probably because we're desperate for workers, most likely. Guess he doesn't know about all the disappearances. Speaking about the disappearances, I would not be surprised if he ends up going missing tomorrow...
