POV JJ

Ashley had left for the airport this morning. Yesterday we all hung out and ate dinner together and then I stayed the night with her. I drove her to the airport and we said goodbye. She told me she would text me when she landed and was at the hotel. Now I'm sat at my desk because I took the morning off to see Ashley off but still needed to come in. I'm looking over some cases when Reid comes up to my desk, "hey JJ, did you want in on the lunch order? We are getting Mexican" he says excitedly. I look up from my folder. "Uh, ya sure are we getting a little of everything or do I need to figure out what I want. Cuz I kinda want everything" I joke and he smiles, "we are getting the family meal, so we can east whatever" he says but stays put. I look back up at him, "was there something else?" I ask. "Oh no, well yes. You seem a little down" he says unsure. I give him a soft smile. "I'm ok Reid. Ashley just left for Paris and will be gone for a week" I say and he nods. "Well your rolls are reversed now. You have to wait for her" he says and walks away. I sigh, hate that I think dryly and go back to my work. I can't seem to focus though, I keep spacing out to that conversation we had.

Flashback 2 days ago

"How do you know?" She asked "because I...I think you are incredibly strong and I'm insanely stubborn. So, we won't let this fail or fall apart. Not when we both know we have something so good. I care a lot about you Ashley and I only want you" I say and wipe the tears that were forming in her eyes away. She pulls me in for a passionate but sweet kiss full of what I hope to be love. We pull back when air is a problem and she hugs me burring herself into my chest. "we'll be ok. I'm not going anywhere" I say softly and she nods

End of flashback

I groan and stand up and head to the bathroom. I get to the bathroom and lock to door. Then I stand in front of the mirror. Why couldn't you just tell her Jennifer? You love her don't you? "I love her so much" I whisper. So why are you so scared, weak? What are you afraid of? I close my eyes and turn the water on and splash some on my face. "You need to pull yourself together jen" I whisper and grab a towel to dry my face off I left the bathroom and walked back to my desk. "Ah JJ I have a little assignment for you" Hotch said as I walked up to my desk. "what is it?" I ask and he waved me to follow him to his office. We walked in and I took a seat as he rounded him desk to sit as well. "I know it's below your skill set but I felt you may want to get out of the office for a bit" he says and I nod. "Quantico has a course they need someone to guest speak for tomorrow. It's for the behavioral course, now usually Reid or Rossi would go but they are in the unit of observation and you are the best at that." He says. "Ok, what time would I need to be there? And how many classes?" I ask just for the day. So we can set you up with a hotel room for the day. It'll be 3 classes. Morning afternoon and night class" he says and I nod. "Ok, any materials I need?" I ask. He smiles and grabs a large binder. "here you are" he says and I  reach out a sigh and he chuckles. "Go home and pack a bag, look over what they want you to touch on. I'll send you the hotel info for tomorrow. First class is at 9am so you have to be up early, long drive" he says and I nod and stand up, "thanks" I say softly and he nods And I walk out and back to my desk. "There you are, lunch is served!" Morgan says as they start to dig in. "What's the binder for?" Emily asks. "Lecture for tomorrow Hotch asked if I could do a couple classes" I say, "what? No fair I love doing lectures. Why are you going?" He asks and Morgan coughs nerd out which causes everyone to chuckle. "Apparently they aren't on your unit that Rossi and you do. He though I would fit best for this one. I also get to show a how a woman can be just as good and maybe even better than a man" I say and grab a taco. Emily sticks her hand out for a high five and I give her one with a smirk. After we eat I say goodbye and head back to my apartment to pack for my day trip. I grab my duffle and set it by the door then go to the couch and open the binder. Around 5 there is a knock on my door and I furrow my eyebrows. I set the binder and my notes on the coffee table. I stand up and open the desk draw in the hall and grab my gun I have stashed there. I then creep to the door and look through the peep hole but don't see anything. I gently unlock the door and swing the door open and have my gun ready to aim but keep it hidden still. I'm met with Rose who was smiling at me and waves I quickly put my gun in my waist band behind my back and usher her in. "Rose what are you doing here? Where are your parents?" I ask and close the door locking it. She skips to the couch and hops on it. I walk over and stand waiting for her to answer. "I asked Joey to drop me off here. Mom and momma are working and I didn't want to be bored at home. Mrs. Deborah is so boring and old." She says with a grumble. "You left without telling Mrs. Deborah? Rose she's going to worry about you" I slightly scold. "No she won't know. She's cooking dinner and she takes ages and it doesn't even taste good." She says and turns the TV on. "Does Joey know she doesn't know your here?" I ask. "No I told him she said it was ok." She mumbles. I sigh and pinch my nose. "Are you mad?" She whispers. I walk over to her and crouch down, "no monkey I'm not mad, but you know it's not safe to not tell an adult where you are going. A lot of people are going to be worried about you" I say softly and she nods. "I just wanted to see you. I miss you being around a the time" she says with tears in her eyes and I bring her into a hug. "Monkey know you can always call me. I know I was away for a long time and I've been working more and not hanging out with you. But you have to know I love you very much and wish to be with you rather then at work." I tell her. "Really?" She asks. "Really, now let's get you back before someone's freaks out" I say and she sighs. "ok after dinner?" I say and she squeals. "Let me text Mrs. Deborah ok?" I say and she nods. I grab my phone off the coffee table and then walk over to the hall desk to put my gun away. I'm about to call Mrs. Deborah when my phone starts to ring with Lizzie's contact. I sigh and answer, "JJ oh thank God. Rose is missing. Deb called and said she wasn't anywhere and security does t know anything. Scarlett and I are on our way home we're freaking out Jen! Please, please tell me you can do something to help find her?" She rambles out. "You need to breath Liz. Freaking out isn't going to solve anything" I say gently and hear her taking deep breaths. "Ok now come over. She is here..." I say but get cut off by Lizzie, "what!?" She exclaims and I hear Scarlett ask what's wrong. I sigh, "Lizzie let me talk please" I say and she mumbles out an apology and then tells Scarlett to drive to my apartment. "She just showed up. Said joey drove her after she told him Mrs. Deborah said it was ok. She's fine, I was about to make some dinner for her and call Mrs. Deborah" I tell her and hear her exhale. "We will be there in 10" she says. "Liz you need to go easy on her and let her explain ok? That goes for you to Scarlett" I say a little louder so she can hear. "Ok ya. See you soon" she says and hangs up. I sigh and put my phone away. "your parents will be joining us for dinner" I say and see Rose get a little scared. "Hey come here" I say and she walks over. "I won't let them get all mad ok? I'll make sure you get to talk" I say and she nods. "Ok so I don't have much, how is pasta?" I ask and she smiles and nods. "Can I help?" She asks and I nod. I get an apron and fold it so it's not so big on her then slip it on. I boil the water as she picks the pasta out. "Ok so I have ingredients to make our own sauce. Want to help?" I ask and she nods excitedly. I get all the ingredients out and start to put them in a bowl. I get a smasher out, "ok so I need you to do the most important job. Think you can do that?" I ask and she nods. I sme and grab the tomatoes and put them in the bowl. "I need to you gently smash the tomatoes into the rest of the ingredients. Think you can do that?" I ask and she nods and starts to gently smash them together. I turn around and put the pasta into the now boiling water the. Turn the heat down slightly. "Ooh looks good. Here let's add some Basil." I say and grabbed the chopped basil and sprinkle it in. "Ok looks amazing now we just have to wait for the pasta" I say as I put the smasher into the sink. As I'm about to clean her face off there's a knock on the door. "Use your key!" I call out and grab a wet paper towel. Lizzie and Scarlett walk in as I'm wiping sauce off of roses face. "Hey, we made dinner. Though Rosie is wearing some of it" I tease and she giggles. I take her apron off and she runs over to give her mom's a hug. They both hug her tight, I turn around to stir the pasta. After a few more minutes the pasta is done. "Can you set the table Liz?" I ask not turning around andi hear her getting plates and utensils out. I drain the water and then put the pasta into a bowl. I grab the sauce and pour it into the pasta. I grab and spoon and mix it a bit then bring it to the table where they all sat. I set the pasta down and sat next to Rose and she smiled at me. I dished out the pasta and we ate in silence. I'm really not in the mood, I mean I just read boring material for a lecture and have to be up at 4am do drive down and give 3. Why do I do this to myself I think and east my food. I still haven't really looked at either Scarlett or Lizzie and I can tell they're trying to catch my eye. I'm not mad at them, I just don't want to deal with this and I'm to blame as well. I mean Rose came here for a reason and she told me that reason. It's my fault and I feel guilty for putting them through a the stress and then I shut Lizzie up a little harshly on the phone. As we finish dinner I stand up and start to clean everything up Lizzie helps by gathering everything and leaving them for me to clean. When I get done I meet them all in the living room and before anyone can say anything my phone goes off and I groan. I take it out of my pocket, "Jareau" I answer not recognizing the number. "Hello, is this agent Jennifer Jareau with the BAU? My name is Dr. Fredrick. I'm head of the psychology department for Quantico" he says and I pinch my nose, "hello, yes this is she" I say. "Great! Did agent Hotchner give you the materials? I just wanted to check to make sure you have everything and are prepared" he says, "yes I'll be there an hour before hand and I'll stay the whole time for any questions. It's only 3 classes correct?" I ask. "Yes, and thank you. I have a feeling our students my have some questions and would let you meet with you" he says. "ok, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow." I say wanting this to be over. "Yes I'll let you go. Thank you again for doing this. See you tomorrow, Good night" he says and I bid him a good night and hang up. I slip my phone into my pocket and grab my notes and binder that are still on the table. "Are you going somewhere?" Lizzie asks. "Yes, Quantico for the day" I say and bring everything to my bag and put them in it. "I have to leave at like 4am so if we can speed this up that would be great" I say and walk back over and take a seat in the recliner. Lizzie shares a look with Scarlett. "Ok, um...we can talk to her at home..." She trails off and I look at her. "I promised rose I would make sure she was heard so we can do this now." I say and Rose comes over to sit on my lap. "Rose why did you run off and lie about it to Joey?" Scarlett says softly. Rose fiddles with my fingers, "I didn't mean to. I just wanted to see auntie JJ" she says softly. "Why didn't you just call her? You know it's dangerous to run off without telling an adult. So why?" Lizzie asks starting to get a little frustrated. Scarlett puts a hand on her thigh, "I'm sorry I just missed JJ" she says and looks down. "Rose you know you can call her. And you saw her a couple days ago and aunt Ashley's" Lizzie says still not understanding. "I just want it to go back to how it was" she says starting to tear up. "what do you mean Rose?" Scarlett asks. Rose looks at me and then back at her mom's, "you guys work all the time and it's ok, but auntie JJ and I would do all these things together, but she is working and gone for a long time just like you guys. I don't want her to forget me" She says looking at me, "Mrs. Deborah is boring and old. I just want to stay with JJ" she says looking at her mom's. "She wouldn't forget you Rosebud and she is doing important work. I'm sure if you asked her she could have a couple days that just you guys hang out." Scarlett suggests and looks at me. I look away and at Rose. "Hey, monkey. I would never forget about you. Why would you think that?" I ask already having a suspicion of why. She looks at me, "they will get mad" she whispers. "They won't get mad and if they do I'm here, ok?" I tell her and she nods and looks at them both. "You guys don't have enough time to play with me all the time. We don't do much together anymore. You guys work all the time, and it was ok because JJ was there. But now I feel alone" she whispers at the end and I squeeze her hand. "Oh baby..." Scarlett says "can you look at us babe?" Lizzie says gently and rose slowly lifts her head. "We're sorry we're working so much Rose. I promise we aren't going to forget you. I know it's hard right now, but mom and I are almost done and then will have a long break. We can do whatever you want then." Lizzie says. "Really?" Rose asks, "promise" Scarlett says and rose hops off me and hugs both of them. I smile and stand up and head to my room to give them a moment. I sit down and put my head in my hands. Why am I so irritable? I'm loosing mind, I know it's getting close, a couple weeks but I'm usually not like this so far in advanced. Just usually on the day of I think and take a breath. I hear footsteps and look up. "You ok?" Lizzie asks. "Fine, just tired...I'm sorry for snapping" I say looking up at her. She walk closer and sits down next to me. "I've seen you snap. That wasn't it...you seem tried" she says softly. I him in response. "Did Ashley text you yet? She should be landing soon or headed to the hotel" Lizzie says. "Not yet." I say. "you sure your ok?" She asks again. I look at her. "I feel like it's my fault she came here and freaked you both out. It's my fault, she's feeling like this I just stoped showing up as much. I already knew she was sad about you guys being gone so much" I say and sigh. "It's not your fault Jen. She loves you a lot and I'm happy she has you. You know why?" She asks and I shrug. "Because I know what it's like to have you in my life and I don't know how I would function if you weren't in it." She says. "you have Rose and Scarlett, you'll be fine" I say and she shakes her head and grabs my hands. "No, you are my best friend. Sister really, you know me better then anyone even Scarlett. You are my rock and I'll always need you" she says and leans her head on my shoulder. "I need you too Liz" I say and rest my head on hers. We sit like that for a bit until Scarlett call for us. "Come on. You need to sleep and so do we." She says and we stand up. I say goodbye to Rose first, "be good monkey, I promise we can have 2 days a month for just use ok?" I says and she nods. "That doesn't mean we'll only see each other for 2 days though ok? Only when I get buys" I say and she nods and smiles and hugs me again. "Love you auntie Jeju" she says and I smile and kiss her head. I stand up and give Scarlett a hug, "be careful on your trip ok? And thank you for taking care of Rose." She says and I smile and nod I then hug Lizzie, "be careful ok? Text me when you get there." She says and I nod. We all say goodnight again and they head out. I sigh and go get ready for bed, still feeling off by ignoring it. Right before I'm about to drift off my phone buzzes,
