At some point while waiting for Kie and John B to get back down from the lighthouse, Pope and Wyatt had exited the van to join JJ in playing hackey sack.
Pope kicked the ball up, and JJ caught it on his shoulder. Wyatt clapped, impressed, until a siren made them turn to see a police car approaching.
"Shit," Wyatt muttered as the three sprinted back to the van. She rounded to the driver's side and slid in, starting the van and flooring the gas pedal.
"Go, go, go," Pope urged as the tires skidded along the gravel.
"I am, shut up," she snapped back. She sighed once they were far enough away from the lighthouse. "Do you think they got out?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm sure they're fine," JJ nodded from the back.
"Okay," she nodded, still worried for her friends. "I'm gonna drop the Twinkie off at the Château and we can walk to JJ's."
It took about thirty minutes to reach the Château, and the crew did exactly as Wyatt said they would. She didn't bother stopping at her house on the way to JJ's, knowing it could potentially cause trouble for no reason.
In the back of her mind, Wyatt was constantly worried JJ's dad would show up. She was a little scared of him, but hated him more for the shit he did to her best friend. On top of that, he was best buddies with her own dad, which made a lot of sense.
It felt like it wasn't hours later until John B pulled up in the Twinkie, honking the horn. The boys were talking in the backyard while Wyatt took a much needed and very relaxing nap on a plastic chair next to them. The honking startled her awake.
JJ tossed what was left of his joint into the grass and smacked Wyatt's arm lightly. "Let's ride."
"This better be good," Pope mumbled.
Wyatt stood, stretching on her way to pile into the back of the van behind her friends. The only person the crew was missing was Kiara, so JB drove to The Wreck.
Pope hopped out as soon as the van was in park, coming out of the building a couple minutes later with some bad news.
"She says she's not coming."
"Why not?" JJ asked in the passenger seat before turning to their friend. "What'd you do to her, John B?"
"Shit," JB sighed. "Hang on. I'll deal with it."
He opened his door and got out of the van, heading inside while Pope came back to sit next to Wyatt in the back seat.
"Where do you think he's taking us this time?" JJ asked his friends. "My guess is we're gonna pull up to some random old lady's house to ask her a bunch of questions... again."
