Wyatt yawned, rubbing her eyes as she stepped out of her room and into the kitchen. It smelled... good?
She woke up instantly at the sight in front of her. Adrian Perez was cooking breakfast.
He looked significantly better than he did last night, less pale and weak looking.
She tensed when he noticed her for the first time.
"Morning, sweetie," he smiled. "Breakfast?"
Wyatt could only stare, still not believing this was real.
He laughed, actually laughed. "Yeah, I noticed we were pretty low on food so I did some grocery shopping."
That explained how he was cooking food they normally didn't have. She just wondered where he got the money, but then figured she shouldn't prod the wolf (or whatever the saying was).
Her father walked up to Wyatt and pulled her into a hug, making her tense. She waited, but nothing happened, so she patted his sides awkwardly. He let go and started dishing up a plate that Wyatt was shocked was for her.
"What are your plans for today?" he asked.
Wyatt grabbed the plate he handed her and moved to sit on a stool at the breakfast bar. Everything about this was weird.
"Uh, I have school," she said cautiously. "Why?"
"Oh, good. Don't be late!" He licked his thumb and sat down beside her. "Hey, I was thinking, maybe we can go down to The Wreck tomorrow and get some lunch, my treat."
Wyatt smiled. "Yeah, that would be nice."
She was kind of getting excited, but she also didn't want to get her hopes up in case this good mood was only temporary.
She practically inhaled her eggs and bacon before setting the dishes in the sink.
"I'll do the dishes later," Wyatt told her dad.
He smiled. "Don't worry about it. I'll do 'em."
She nodded slowly, backing up into her room. JJ texted and said they'd be there in ten minutes. Great.
Wyatt quickly pulled on some dark green corduroy shorts and a white floral t-shirt, then socks, then some yellow converses. She decided to go for some gold hoop earrings today and put her hair into two braids.
She ran across the hall and scrubbed her teeth quickly before she heard a honk outside.
"Is that your friends?" her dad called from where the front door would be.
